At first, Weezer caught some flack from the Web when they released the cover of their upcoming album (dropping June 3) because it's a little, well, weird. Like, just weird-weird. Now there are a bunch of songs from the the album available for a listen and again, it seems like fans are nervous. Perhaps it's because aside from one of the tracks ("Pork and Beans") there doesn't seem to be a tune that is of the same quality of "Say It Ain't So" or "Island in the Sun".
I'm alright with one of the tracks, "Heart Songs" although there are about a billion references to everyone from Bruce Springstein to Quiet Riot to Debbie Gibson. "Dreamin" is OK, too, and is more Weezer-ish.
To check out some of the songs for yourself and to tell me if I'm just being too nostalgic for the Weezer of old, read more.

I love me some weezer and I'm glad that they're not sticking with the tried and true. I don't believe as artists they can consider themselves as truely accomplished if they stick with one recipe. They're still the same ol' weezer they're just trying to find the next right thing for them.
did I even make any sense?
1I love Weezer. From what I can tell, I like these songs better than their last album. I just wasn't into it.
2Meh. I'm not too impressed. They made two AMAZING albums and then it's been all downhill since then.
3I don't see what the big deal is with their album cover. It's basically the same as their Green and Blue albums
4i heart Weezer and i really like these and some of the other songs from this albums that i have heard!
5seriously guys? these are terrible. the lyrics make me want to stab my own ears, especially knowing what weezer is capable of... crap.
6Um. What exactly did they catch flack for?
Cause this album is exactly like their last two. Maybe I am blind.
I really like Pork and Beans. Its fun to work out to.
Plus its like a little reminder that they're really not into doing what everyone else is doing.
They just want to do their own thing
7...album COVER I mean...
8It's not bad. But it's not good either.
9meh, not too impressive..green and blue albums were their best for sure and then everything just kind of fell short Although I do like the pork and beans song.
10yeah, these songs suck.
11I used to be such a die-hard loyal Weezer fan ... but basically after hearing this crap and the album immediately before this one, I've had to cut my ties. Sorry guys. You sold out big time!
12I was Weezer obsessed with the blue album, but ESPECIALLY Pinkerton. Since then they've just made me angry and became pop sell outs.
13love Weezer. enjoying what i've heard of the new album.
big fan of "the greatest man who ever lived"
14FlamesofJune, I am so right there with you. I remember being freaking obsessed with them back when the blue album was new. I remember sending in the info to join the fan club and getting the little xeroxed newsletters from Mykal & Carli, and seeing less than 1000 people listed. The three of us in Alaska knew each other! lol I still have my official fan club zipper pull form 1996. Pinkerton became a measuring stick: the hardcore fans adored it, listened to it over and over and uncovered new layers with each listen. It was their peak, artistically. The following two, while commercially successful, had lost that special something, and it wasn't just fan perception. The magic was gone. I have to say, the fact that more recent fans are moaning about this recent stuff has got me intrigued, because most of those people dislike Pinkerton, too. I haven't listend yet, but my interest is peaked. They sure *LOOK* like their weirdo-nerd spark is back.
