American Idol said goodbye to one of the final three on Wednesday which gives us our 2008 top two finalists. Of the three above, many could have predicted two of them would make it this far (ahem! Davids) and one has shocked many by fighting her way to the top. So was there an Idol upset? Or do the top two look the way many of us expected? To see some of my thoughts and discuss, just read more.
And Idol rolls along as expected with Syesha singing her final song of the competition. She was gracious and thankful for the experience. I can only imagine how proud she must feel to get this far — and she should be. No one really expected it and the girl pulled out some fight in the end to stay alive (though it was a little hammy sometimes).
"The math is very simple, but the reality is hard to swallow." This is how Ryan kicked off the "drama," aka the elimination business of the night. And from that eloquent introduction we traveled with the top three Idols to their respective hometowns. David Archuleta was full of "gosh!"s and all three shed some tears.
Here are some more of my thoughts:
- Why do the producers of Idol insist on boring us with soft-rock hits? That opening group performance could not have been a more anti-climactic start to the final elimination show of the season.
- David Archuleta's head in the pool of his Ford commercial dream sequence made me spit out my drink in laughter.
- I loved that Fantasia busted onto the stage with a crazy amount of energy and some pretty funky moves. Her back-up dancers were fun too. Despite how you may feel about the song (and overall performance), there is no denying the girl's got charisma. Did anyone happen to catch the shot of Simon's face near the end? Priceless.
- Those little girls screaming themselves blue in the face back in Utah gave us all a little glimpse into what's been fueling little David along in this competition. Well, that and talent. But the girls, they love this guy.
- How cute were the brothers Cook on stage? That was nice of Ryan to bring David's brother up there. Also, upon viewing Cook's "Idol Journey" segment I've decided he definitely wins most improved in the image department. What do you think?
So Simon got his wish for a "humdinger" of a finale with a David vs. David match-up. Syesha was sad, of course, but she took it like a champ and probably knew it was practically inevitable. So what did you think? Excited for next week?

David COOK better win!!!!
1OMFG! Simon's face was soooooooo priceless when Fantasia was singing.
2I think David Cook is the better, more well rounded singer/performer and is more ready to make an album and go on tour, but David Archuleta will probably win because of those little girlies! The same thing happened last year - Miranda was the best singer up there and Blake was a great performer, but Jordan won because of the teenage girl vote. It doesn't matter anyway - all three will put albums out.
3Simon's reaction to Fantasia's performance made this entire season worth it for me.
4the only reason i watched last night was to see them replay David A. singing "My Boo" and they didnt do it!
5Simon's WTF face at the end of Fantasia's performance wins for my favourite Idol moment ever. Hysterical.
Cook for the win!
6can't wait for david cook to win!!
hahaha and I agree that Simon's face during fantasia's performance was priceless. Because, honestly, it was an awful performance.
7did anyone else see one of fantasias backup dancers rear end when she fell out of her dress? it was a bit too short for primetime tv (american idol especially) i think. there was definately some cheek hanging out
very hormonal... bc all 3 of the 'home' montages made me cry.
8GO DAVID COOK!
9I think David Cook should win, but I didn't really like any of the contestants this season.
Haha Simon's face was priceless! I was cracking up when I saw that. I thought Fantasia's performance was pretty bad (she didn't even sing the chorus!). Although I will say she had a lot of energy, but I'm not a huge fan of hers. I can't stand the Macy Gray voice.
Oh my god, did anyone see that lady who handed Syesha her baby when she went to her hometown? That was so awkward, poor Syesha.
10I thought Sy was so gracious and I really ended up liking her more than I thought I would.
I would love Cook to win but I feel like Arch is just gonna win. Which is fine, but I would love an upset!
11I pray that David Cook wins. He's so good! And David A. isn't bad per se, but his sound is just so common. He has the voice of the boy band member wannabe, and I hope that someone with real talent wins -- aka DAVID COOK!!
12I think the results show should be 30 min and not an hour. It's so boring I usually read until the end haha
13Anyway, I got bored a couple weeks back, I wish Carly and Michael would've stayed longer, they were much more fun. I hope David C wins but who knows with the main voting audience. David A has a nice voice, he just has LOTS of learning to do. I think the tour will be good for him, get some stage presence, work on his act.
Looking forward to next week!
Team Cook all the way! I'm so over David A. and his father!
14Oh and that was the first time I've ever heard Fantasia. And it scared me.
15I feel like David A has a limited fan base and all the other contestants fans will vote soley for Cook. Here's hoping anyways... I am so over Archuleta.
16the choreographed dance at the opening pefrormance was so ridiculous, i felt really awkward and even offended a little bit. and they do it every week! my god, poor Cook, he must have been so embarrassed. but well.. i guess one is forced to compromise in order to achieve success.
i've been watching AI since top seven so i had no idea Cook's hair couple months ago was so bad. it kinda took almost all my love for him away
17but still.. i'm rooting for "big David" to win the competition, heaven forbid Archuleta. Despite having nice voice he has no clue what to do with it, as he's just a baby.
David Archuleta belongs on the Disney Channel.
18DC FTMFW!!!
Simon's face was indeed, priceess.
19Gosh. I swear, no other contestant has, gosh, ever gotten on my nerves more than, gosh, David A.!! Gosh.
20Seeing all the Cook Love on here has my hopes VERY high! I've loved watching him from the start...he DESERVES to win!
21Nobody deserves the crown more than Cook does.
And yay Syesha for being so gracious! Last woman standing, indeed.
22I had to mute Fantasia...that was frightening. Go DAVID COOK!!!

24David Cook is awesome. I downloaded his version of "Always be my baby" and "Billie Jean" and listen to them all the time. This guy is great.
Simon's look was priceless.
25I really hope David Cook wins but seeing that David A is who Vote For The Worst picked worries me. I think David A is sweet kid and he can sing, but he seems like he can only sing ballads. David C seems like he can pretty much sing anything. Hopefully Vote For The Worst wont ruin David Cooks chance at winning.
26I agree that David A belongs on the Disney channel. Syesha was incredibly gracious and behaved like a real pro from start to finish. I thought David A.s hometown was a little scary and all his tears seemed very staged to me. I just feel like anything he does is questionable and probably staged on purpose.
David Cook is the most talented performer left. He behaved with class - how about the psycho fangirl with the blonde hair in his home town??? She was scarrrrrry....
and I had never seen or heard Fantasia before, because this is the first season I've ever watched AI. I'm sorry, but comparing her to Macy Grey is like an insult to Macy Grey imitators. She looked like the newscaster/guy in semi-drag character in that movie The Fifth Element and her... singing? I guess you could call it that? was just bizarre- Simon's face and the look he exchanged with Randy said it all there.
That said, at least she MOVED and tried to inject some energy, which is more than the tired group sing- or indeed any of the songs chosen by judges or producers last week- could do. It is really cracking me up that AI can even pretend to have any relevence to modern pop or rock music. They lecture all these contestants and then give them totally dated material and mentors... it's all just very tired and middle aged sounding to me. Particularly David A, which is really sad at age 17. Trying to pass off ' Don't want to miss a thing' as one of the best songs ever written, when it is a hack movie soundtrack ballad from 1996, is just silly!! Particularly when Aerosmith have written some arguably great rock songs that Cook could have done a lot more with. bah... it's gotten boring. Too bad
27I never super loved Syesha, but when she was crying in the limo during her "back home" segment, her "living my dream" comment made me cry.
28Didn't David A look like Mickey Mouse when he came out in the boxing robe? It was HILARIOUS!
