When I headed back to the theaters this weekend to see Iron Man a second time, I noticed something about the oh, 30 minutes of previews that ran before the feature. There's an excellent, spine-tingly new trailer for The Dark Knight which, if I already weren't completely anxious to see that film, I certainly would be now. While it's heartbreaking to see Heath up there onscreen as The Joker, it's also totally mesmerizing. That movie is just going to be so good.
However. We also got a new full-length trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and I'm not trying to be a downer here, but I was shocked by how lackluster it was. There's no real tension and little excitement. Not even Cate Blanchett seems to be able to light up the screen with any passion. The signature music is fun, but that's about it. I'm not so precious about the previous Indiana Jones movies that I needed Spielberg, Lucas and Co. to "not screw this up." Mostly I just want it to be a good movie in general. The trailer has me a little worried.
Did you catch these two in the theaters this weekend? To watch them again and tell me what you think, read more.

I love both previews and am counting the days for both to open. From the looks of the preview for The Dark Knight I think we will be witnessing Heath's best work. So sad.... As for Indiana Jones, I found the preview very entertaining and along the same lines of the other Indie flicks, but perhaps I am biased by my love for Shia...haha!
1the dark knight... ill MAYBE go see it, but mostly for Heath.
2Indiana Jones - im very excited.
I'm so excited for the Dark Knight!
3My boyfriend saw Iron Man this weekend and said the same thing as you: that the Dark Knight trailer was awesome and that the Indy trailer was underwhelming. After seeing them, I have to agree. I'm still fairly excited for both movies, though.
From the few lines she spoke in the trailer, I can tell that Maggie is going to be SO much better than Katie as Rachel.
4I think I am going to stop being the first to comment on things as it becomes a waste, seeing my comment fly up on top of the ad and be unreadable. Oh well...there are bigger problems in the world...
5i wanna see both
badly!
6For me the 'trailers' that are the most exciting, the films turn out to be an absolute let down.
7Being as though the Indy trailer wasn't all that exciting, it was a visual feast. The cast alone makes this a must see. I disagee about your Cate Blanchett comment, she seems to be the most interesting part of this flick.
I'm excited for both of the movies to come out. The trailers looked awesome.
8I seriously cannot wait for The Dark Knight!!!!=DD
9Black Knight gave me chills upon chills. Indiana Jones is also exciting because it reminds me of the straight-man humor I loved from the original films. Indy is really an "accidental" hero as he is interested in archeology and historical treasures more than combat. i wish Sean Connery was in this, but other than that i am excited to see both films. Not as excited as SATC in 25 days, but excited nonetheless.
10The Dark Knight is going to be awesome. The first one was great, but there were definitely some weak spots (*ahem* Katie Holmes) that have been shored up for the sequel. It's definitely going to be painful to see Heath on screen, though.
Oh, Indy. You were my first crush, and now that you're in your sixties (and married? with a son!) I almost wish that you would go gentle into that good night rather, than going out in a blaze of crappy CGI and self-referential jokes. However, when I saw the trailer before Iron Man this weekend, and the music swelled in the dark of the theater, I knew I had to see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
11I think the Indiana Jones trailer is trying to go a different route. It is a sequel and it has been so long since the last one I think they are trying to make you nostalgic for the other ones and remember what its like. And for me it worked. It is definitely not like the Dark Knight trailer but I love it and am even more excited about Indiana Jones now, if that is possible.
12They both look good. Between these & the SATC (which I'm most excited for) it could be a good movie summer.
13Can't wait for Dark Knight
14Well, I happen to disagree with your feeling on the Indy trailer. I kid you not, in my theater everyone was still talking during the DK (looks good though!) trailer and when Indy came on everyone got quiet and then there was applause at the end. I am SO excited about Indiana Jones and I thought the trailer was just as exciting and fun as the previous ones. Cate looks incredible and I have no idea what you mean by "no passion"??? She was only in the trailer for 2-3 scenes what "passion" was she supposed to exhibit? She looks to be one of the highlights in this film, I can't WAIT!!
I'm also looking forward to SATC and X-Files. It seems to be the summer for come-back television.
15OK, just watched Indy — I agree, kinda blah. The most exciting part for me was seeing Karen Allen! I also didn't like the "natives" in the trailer. I thought we'd moved past that kind of thing.
Batman looks awesome! Chicago looks so dark and gloomy, Heath seems great as the Joker (sad) and the suspense is killing me!
16I thought the Indy trailer was okay. It has the feel of the past movies and I loved the ''old'' movies so it worked for me.
Isn't Cate Blanchett supposed to portray a cold, commnuist officer? What kind of passion was she supposed convey?
17as much as i love heath ledger and think he was a fantastic actor, if you had told me that the joker was played by him (without my already knowing) i would have been astonished! it looks nothing like him, sounds nothing like him, is nothing like him...in the best possible way. heath seems to have taken it to a whole new level i just hope that he wins awards for it (and not just because of his death as sad as it was).
18Christian Bale + Heath Ledger= BEST MOVIE EVER
I love them both so much. It will seem so weird not seeing Heath walk the red carpet for the Batman premiere
:(
I left flowers at his apartment on Broome Street in NYC right after he died. The memorial was beautiful, and the flowers and notes left from people all over the world was crazy. It was still nice to see most things are still being left there, as I viewed the same spot again last week.
19I never really had a problem with Katie's part in the first one, but maybe its because I really loved it. This is gonna be one of the most amazing sequels ever made. I also love Heath so this is just another way of me honoring him.
20I am SO going to see The Dark Knight. RIP Heath.
21I am DYING to see Dark Knight!!!! Indiana Jones looks great too.
22i'm stoked to see both!
23I think they both look great! I hope they live up to the hype, I need to see these trailers in the theaters. I want to see IronMan badly.
24I thought this Indiana Jones trailer was nearly as exciting/energetic as the previoius trailers for this film. maybe it was poorly edited? I DID like the beautiful scenery shots with the waterfall, and the fact that it explains what the crystal skulls are. I am still totally excited about this movie - the Indiana Jones and Back to the Future trilogies were key in my childhood. I will probably catch this one opening weekend (if not opening night)!
Also, from what I've read, girlnone, they used very little CGI for Indiana Jones and stuck with old-school stunts and sets like the originals. That really boosted my confidence in the quality of this film.
Dark knight looks great too, hard to believe that's even Heath. The new Batman was one of the best movies I've seen in years.
25I can't wait for The Dark Knight!!!!
26I don't know about seeing Dark Knight in the theater.. if it is pushing three hours long (on a pretty summer day) thanI may have to Netflix it.
But wild horses cannot keep me away from Indy! Knowing my obsesssion with Harrison and Shia.. I will more than likely see it twice on opening weekend!
27Juicylemon — I think a role can be cold and calculating and still require some kind of aliveness. In my personal opinion, the trailer is flat, and Blanchett's small bit in it is also flat.
I'm still excited to see the movie, I was just underwhelmed by one preview. I'm not sure why there's so much defensiveness about this one trailer!
28I was looking forward to seeing the Dark Night and the preview made me even more excited. I can't wait! The Indy preview was meh though.
