After last week's trip to the NYC nightclub, this episode of The Office took us back to, well, the actual office. I'm generally in favor of the episodes that take place inside Dunder-Mifflin, but this one was a little strange for me — draggy in parts, then funny, then draggy again.
I do love me some Stanley, though, and this episode was a great showcase for him at his prickly, disrespectful best. His contempt for Michael really showed through. Speaking of contempt, Ryan stopped by the D-M offices with some harsh words for Jim, and Andy and Dwight displayed their manliness (sort of) by fighting over Andy's car. And we got to learn Pam's middle name and see her in her granny glasses, so those are both points in the episode's favor.
What did you think of the episode? Definitely check out Savvy's relatable moments, and to see some of the things I liked and talk about your own favorite moments, just read more.
- Michael slathering his face with Vaseline to make a face-print outside Dunder-Mifflin was so funny, I almost wish the writers had made it a continuing thread throughout the episode. Michael's been bugging me these days, but his delusions of grandeur always amuse. "Look, kids! Your daddy left that facehole!"
- Another great part from the opening was Kelly babbling incoherently about Will Smith, Michael looking at Pam to translate, and Pam translating perfectly.
- As far as I'm concerned, the writers can continue with the Pam/Jim fake proposals for quite a while (Pam/Jim proposals = the new Dwight pranks?) as long as there's a real proposal coming at some point. But anyway, Pam's middle name is Morgan, and she would energize Jim if she would just accept his proposal to . . . get him some coffee.
- Michael's comments on Pam's backup glasses were about what you'd expect ("I can't hear you. It's just noise coming out of an ugly scientist.") but what really got me was Kevin's reaction. Wouldn't have pegged him for a guy with a librarian fetish, but I kept rewinding to hear him ask Pam to tell him "these are due back Thursday."
- So, Stanley's never been the biggest fan of Michael, or his job, or Dunder-Mifflin in general, but has he ever been this outright insubordinate before? I forget that, considering how brilliant Michael tends to think he is as a manager, he's actually terrible at confrontation.
- Loved Angela's hilarious Mad Lib, filled with enticing and juicy adjectives like "good" and "tall" and "nice." Whoa, nice? That's a walk on the wild side, Ang!
- One of my favorite moments of the episode was Michael asking Daryl how he and his street gang ("Warriors . . . Newsies") dealt with conflict. At least Michael was wise enough to not actually use the "fluffy fingers."
- Jim's officially on notice — w-w-w-what? Toby just trying to raise a little hell before fleeing to Costa Rica, or what?
- While the whole subplot with Andy's car mostly fell into the background for me, I did enjoy his "say yes. say yes now. 5-4-3-2-1 say yes" fast-talking swindle. Dwight may not have the girl, but at least he got the car (or the profits once it sells on eBay in a fierce three-way bidding war).
- I think the best thing about the episode was Phyllis telling Michael his idea was the dumbest thing she'd ever heard. Even if the whole episode was a setup for that one joke, I think it was worth it.

Stanley scared me last night. I've never been so stressed out during The Office.
1I agree that there were a bunch of dead parts. I don't like just sitting there waiting for the funny to happen.
I am loving the fake proposals and I can't WAIT for the real one. They are so cute.
I also thought this whole new side of Michael was interesting. I don't remember ever seeing him do 'boss' things like give people actual feedback. I wonder if we'll see more of it.
and...
Kevin - "Can you just say 'These are due back Thursday?'"
2I loved "I can't hear you. It's just noise coming out of an ugly scientist." I was sitting in bed with my ugly glasses and totally cracked up.
3I was so expecting for Michael to use the fluffy fingers on Stanley.
4The Andy/Dwight car thing just kinda died. I expected it to be more resolved.
5I also expected Michael to tickle Stanley near the end there. But then he said something that made sense. What got into Michael, doing something right for once?
6i wonder if ryan and toby are going to try to get jim fired? that would really mix things up...
7I kind of really don't like Toby now. The only reason Jim got a warning was because he's with Pam and that's not fair at all. And I'm glad the Stanley thing got resolved peacefully. It was making me really uncomfortable.
8Oh, and I completely missed the part about Kevin's reaction to the "ugly" glasses or I just wasn't paying enough attention.
9I think for the first time in my history of watching The Office, I was disappointed with an episode. I thought the parts with Pam and her glasses were HYSTERICAL, but other than that, I felt kind of on edge the whole time. I think it was the whole Jim/Ryan/Toby exchange in the conference room that made me so nervous for Jim. I feel like this isn't the last we'll hear of it...Toby is gunning for him.
10I aggree with you buzz, there were some crazy funny parts and some really boring ones, but Stanley scared me a bit...and I really thought he was going to do something crazy
111. Oh my goodies, fluffy fingers! too funny
2. Dang Toby and his crack head friend are about to get rid of Jim...
3. Jim will have to propose to Pam when none of us are expecting it...cuz we are all waiting for it
Stanley was crazy! BUT I absolutely loved Michael when it was just the two of them in the office and he became a real boss for like 2 seconds....before he turned back into the somewhat dense impersonator of Rodney Dangerfield....
Also, PAM'S GLASSES! Hilarious!
12what has happened to the office? I mean i still love it and think it is the greatest thing ever, but the past couple of episodes havent been as AMAZING as it could have been... but there were some good parts! of course stanley was just great, i agree i always love some stanley! and definitly pams glasses and dwight was at his best this episode. i LOVE the jim fake proposing every episode (almost)! i cannot wait until he acually does!
13I was praying that Michael would fire Stanley. Now I hate Stanley. I was glad Michael actually got a backbone and told him he was the boss, but still. This episode was not great. Not funny enough. The nest part was Darryl saying he was part of the Newsies.
14One of the best parts for me was Dwight's chart. We paused it and looked at all of the symbols by their names, which are hilarious! If you haven't done it yet, you're seriously missing out.
15I REALLY didn't like Ryan in this episode. That was perhaps my least favorite part of the episode. I can't wait until they (hopefully) bust him for his drug problem!
I heart Jim & Pam--those Glasses--too funny!
And Dwight with the Menstrual Legend.
I love the Office!
16i love that andy's car is actually on ebay
i thought the episode was pretty good and while i love JAM it was nice to have the episode focus on someone other than them
17Glad I'm not the only one disappointed. There were a lot of things that went nowhere...the fluffy fingers, the face imprint, Jim's "warning". But my reaction to Stanley was, "You GO Stanley!" Michael is such an idiot that I'm glad someone finally stood up to him. Especially after he was such a jerk to Pam about the glasses.
And I used to feel sorry for Toby, but now I'm mad at him!
18I agree, I love that Dwights car is REALLY on ebay!

19I agree with pretty much everyone else...
And just to say that this episode made me VERY uncomfortable... I no longer feel bad for Toby; now I think he's an *sshole. Stanley used to be one of my fav minor characters; now it seemed he changed the whole tone of the show with his outburst (not that it wasn't called for) and really made me uncomfortable watching. And Ryan? He's always been a jerk, but now--moreso than ever--its getting on my nerves.
I don't know about others, but as a whole, this fourth season has kind of been a let-down, compared to the brilliance that were the 1st-3rd seasons.
20whoa man i thought this was the best one since the strike! i dunno what you guys are talking about. the only slow part for me was michael's awful rodney dangerfield impressions.
i LOOOVed dwight in a wife-beater washing the xterra with his 'andy-like' sing songs.
fluffy fingers. classic.
21I thought it was pretty dull--with the exception of the fake proposal & Darryl's fluffy fingers.
22OMG! I never really cared for Ryan, but this episode has placed him on my $hit list permanently!!
23Toby wimpy behind can go kick rocks for all I care. He just did that to get at Jim for being with Pam. He needs to grow a spine.
Gotta love Stanley. I believe he suffers from ABMS (Angry Black Man Syndrome)
I didn't like this episode. I laughed at "Can you just say 'These are due back Thursday?'" but thats it.
24I'm especially disappointed with what they're doing with Toby. I don't want to be mad at Toby. I've always felt bad for him. I don't want them to make him unlikable.
I'm disappointed with Ryan too. I used to really like Ryan.
I liked Dwight´s presentation to Michael.
25I couldnt believe micheal said something logical at the end!
26did anyone else notice that angela seemed kinda interested in dwight again when he said he was going to make profits on the car. i guess his swindling of andy and making out with the amazon last week are making her notice him again....and less mad for him killing her cat.
27I like this episode. The only thing that bothered me was that Stanley's outburst came out of no where. That he was insubordinate over his crossword puzzle when Michael does so many stupid foolish more upsetting things, that made no sense to me. Michael's ideas are foolish and he's always been a bad boss and his prior offenses are much worse than asking Stanley to stop doing his puzzle. That seemed off to me. I still think Toby is just as pathetic as ever. The road he took was low and cowardely. He used to be pathetic and honorbale but that was just pathetic and sad. Ryan is obviously gunning for Jim too though what with the comment for Jim to watch his back last week and now the verbal warning. I wouldn't be surprised if Jim was offered Ryan's job when Ryan is busted for coke. Anybody else get the feeling that Jim was the first choice for that job but that he chose Pam instead?
28kastarte2, I agree...I thought that Jim was the first choice and Ryan got it when Jim withdrew himself to go back to Pam. I think Ryan gunning for Jim also has to do with the fact that he asked Pam out that one time, to find out that Jim was with her...so it's everything adding up.
29I loved Stanley in this episode, it was just funny because everything he was saying was true lol.
Best line " words coming out of an ugly scientist" lol
30I didn't like this episode that much. The glasses were funny and Michael's conversation with Darryl was hilarious but the rest of it was pretty disappointing.
31i didn't like that they made stanley so mean. it seemed so out of character for him. part of what makes him so funny is muttering comments under his breath or talking during the interviews. i didn't like this "screamy" side. and he used to be one of my favorites!
32I loved Dwight's Mad Lib after he was reselling Andy's car. I am team Dwight.
33i think he (stanley) said what many people would like to say in an office situation to their bosses. pure escapism.
34Kevin is gross. I did not think that was funny. AT ALL.
I did think Michael's reaction to Pam's glasses was hilarious, though.
Stanley just scared me to death with his blowing up in front of everyone.
