TV may be returning to normal after the writers' strike, but viewers haven't necessarily come back along with the series. Ratings for the opening night of sweeps — which included last week's new episodes of Grey's Anatomy and CSI — were down 11 percent from the same time last year. The New York Times notes that ratings were down even before the strike, and now every network but Fox will post losses overall for the season.
Still, it's hard to know what those numbers mean. So, I'll put it to you: Are you watching less TV? Are you just watching more online? Or have you left network TV shows behind and turned to cable instead?

I'm watching more series than I was last year and I'm pretty on top of my viewing as well. Last year I let stuff build up on the TiVo for weeks at a time because I was busy and stressed out with work, but this year I try to watch stuff faster so I don't get spoilers. Plus I love your write-ups and the discussions they kick off so I always want to join in as soon as possible, especially with shows like Lost and American Idol
About the same for me!
I'm watching more online, actually. It's more convenient for me. I don't have TiVo, or else I'd just TiVo stuff.
last year i was overseas in new zealand and didn't watch NZ tv...but i watched tv shows on DVD (a LOT of them!!!) and online, too (but mostly stuff from the previous year when i hardly watched tv shows at all). this year i have cable and watch more television.
I rarely watch tv for at least the past year and half or so and when I do its mostly cable shows.
This year, I stopped subscribing to cable, so I didn't feel as if there was much to watch. Currently, I've pretty much stopped watching TV or even online shows at all.
Actually, I've been getting into reading more and watching TV less than I normally do. I also watch online and playing my Wii.
I'm still watching the same shows, but I watch most of them online now. If the cable companies/networks/writers can't deliver the shows I want or at the times I want to watch them, why shouldn't I go somewhere online where I can get them on-demand, even if the quality isn't as great?
Much less. The majority of crap that is on t.v. these days is beyond insulting to the intellegence of the average stalk of celery. More time for me to get involved in quality time with friends, family, and my main dude, Oliver Katt!
I'm watching much less because there isn't much left on TV.
Since am working, i dont have much time watching daily shows.
I never watched much tv, but I'm busier this year, and don't have enough time to watch shows I would usually make time for. At least most of the time. I miss a lot of prime time tv, often not getting home until around 9:30. I miss American Idol now. I still watch Dancing with the Stars and Desperate Housewives with my family, as well as Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and a little Brothers & Sisters.
But other than that, it's just news, mostly CNN (love/hate relationship!), for me.
Oh, you know what I watch mostly? Comcast's OnDemand programs! At my leisure, and pause-able tv and movies and music.
I watch more online since I always get home late on weekdays. Or I do season marathons on DVD.
i do love my shows and i've cut down to only the ones i cant live without. which are still quite a few
I rarely watch tv, but I don't think that has changed. We don't have TV in the living room so it's rarely on.
i feel like i'm watching about the same amount as a year ago. i don't really remember what i was doing a year ago today - but i'm guessing it was along the same lines as now - go to work, go to gym, go home and watch about 2 hours of tv and be done with it.
So much less.
I rarely watched TV so I ended up cancelling my cable over a year ago.
It saves me almost $1,000 a year.
If I need to watch something, I do so at my bf's house.
Watching less TV, spending more time online (Sugar addiction anyone?), but not watching shows online.
I'm watching less TV. We canceled cable when the writer's strike happened b/c there was nothing to watch and we like having more free time in the evening to work other projects.
I broke my leg and dislocated my ankle so the tv is on so much, but I am always doing something else at the same time, like on the computer, knitting, or reading. I love the Style network!
defintiely less. i used to dictate my schedule around tv, but now if i'm lucky enough to catch the office every thursday, i'm happy. i guess that's what netflix is for.
I watch way too much
I think previously if I'd missed a few episodes of a tv show I was more likely to stop watching the show because there was so much of it I thought I'd never catch up. With the writer's strike I got up to date on a lot of tv shows as the seasons were all so short that it didn't take up too much of my time to catch up, so I'd say I'm actually watching more tv as a result.
This is why I prefer a lot of the TV in the UK where I live as the seasons are typically much shorter than for US series. Or maybe I just have a short attention span, who knows?!
I watch less tv. Shows that i used to like have jumped the shark, there are some shows with no new episodes (Heroes), slowly but surely I have started straying away to renting movies, buying whole series on dvd and watching online
I'm actually watching a few more shows now b/c in the past, I never watched 30 Rock or The Office, but now I've added them in.
Same, LaLaLaurie06! The writer's strike gave me a chance to watch some other shows that I've never seen before (since my other ones were on hiatus), and now I've just been adding them in to my schedule as well. It's so funny, I actually got hooked on the Office last fall and I was so sad when he strike hit. I'm so glad it's back now.
strike didn't disturb my relationship with entertainment, i actually prefer dvds or online purchase, so i had chance to catch up witj old shows like my so called life
about the same for me which is next to none. I average about 3 hours of tv a week. I'm not loyal to any shows.
I'm a big TV fan and always have been. But I've been busy this year because it's my first year of college and instead of spending my free time watching TV, I spend it going out and chilling or shopping with friends. I end up watching marathons of shows like Parental Control at 2am haha. But I try my best to keep up with my favorite network TV shows, like Cane(CBS please don't cancel it!), Biggest Loser, HIMYM, The Office, and the Apprentice.
Less.
I rarely pick up new shows and am out of the loop on a lot of the 'hits'.
