Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh — can we talk about the thing with Pam and Jim? Ack! I don't want to write anything that will be a spoiler here, so after the jump let's discuss this whole thing at greater length.
Elsewhere in this episode of The Office, the nearby construction company is parking in the Dunder-Mifflin staff spaces, causing them to park further away from the office (a 10- or 30-minute walk, depending on who you ask). Meanwhile, Michael is living up the single life, requiring his employees to set him up on dates, and pining after a chair model in a catalog. I'm not sure this episode was hilariously funny, but it certainly kept my attention. And I'm glad to have an episode set in the office again.
To see some of my favorite moments and to share your own, read more.
- I think I love Pam a little more each episode. "He promised me his old chair. It's one of these: Shhoooooooh." She's so awesome.
- "And I'm optimistic because everyday I get a little more desperate and desperate situations yield the greatest results." — Michael, on being single
- "Call us when you get there so we know you're OK." — Phyllis, to Andy when he says he left his cell phone in his car.
- Michael, inappropriate as ever, calls Oscar, "Oscar Meyer Weiner Lover."
- "I am a catch and I am not going to be the one that got away." Michael makes it a requirement that everyone recommend someone to date him — or else they are fired.
- Dwight looks into finding the chair model, but discovers that she has died. "She was so young and now she is dead. As dead as every dead animal who has ever died."
- Pam's landlady: "Are you Michael Scott?"
Michael: "Is who Michael what?" - Michael: "I enjoyed this conversation. It was very nice. It was like talking to the sweet old lady on the bus."
Pam's landlady: "That's incredibly rude."
Michael: "Now you ruined it." - Andy: "Michael Scott could not make it today due to an unforeseen prior engagement."
I love that Kevin and Andy take matters into their own hands with the parking situation. As much as I like Michael, it's fun to see a storyline that's not entirely about him (or Jam). - Awwww, Kevin. "It's just nice to win one."
- OK, wow. Jim promises to propose to Pam and assures her that when he does propose, it's going to kick her ass. Also, he got a ring a week after they started dating?! But did anyone else think Pam's face sort of fell a little as Jim walked away from the desk? Maybe I was seeing things.
- Andy went to bat on the parking issue for the guy who wonders how he's going to pay his orphanage bills. Also: his little happy dance in the parking lot warmed my heart.
- Michael: "Well, what do you do?"
Dwight: "You wait until next year's chair catalog comes out and you find someone who's still alive." - Aaaand I totally fell for Jim's ol' gotta-tie-my-shoe-down-on-one-knee-proposal-fakeout. Anyone else's heart start pounding like crazy?

When Jim dropped down to his knee, I looked at my roommate, and said something along the lines of, "OMG, he's not going to, not now, not there, OMG."
1I LOVED THIS EPISODE!!
Jim buying the ring after their first date?!?! Freaking adorable!
Buzz, I totally fell for it when he dropped to one knee. It would have been really cute if he did it, but now I can't wait for the real proposal.
2Also, I don't think her face fell. I think she looked pretty happy and in love.
And I'm loving Pam more and more too. On a pretty shallow level, I'm really loving that she's dressing A LOT better.
3i was DYING when jim did the proposal fake out
i love him! and i love how he bought
a ring a week after they started dating...awww jim!
4LOVED LOVED LOVED this episode! it was so stinking cute! And I was laughing out loud a lot, which is a must for The Office. Can't wait to see how Jim does finally propose, but until then, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy him faking out Pam. Classic.
5Squeeeeeeeeeeeeee @ Jim buying the ring in their first week of dating!!!! I totally fell for the one knee thing and laughed my butt off when he said, "Will you wait for me while I tie my shoe?"
This episode wasn't hysterically funny but was seriously awesome for that reason alone!
6Now every episode will have us wondering "will he propose tonight?" We should start a betting pool on how long it will be before proposal episode. Surely they won't make it the season finale?!?!?
Has anyone ever had a boss that asked them to fix them up? EWWWWW!
7How about when Michael said, "But I shorn't. What part of shorn't don't you understand?" Love it!
8am i the only one who doesn't want jim and pam to get engaged?
9I also fell for the going-to-tie-my-shoe fake-out. Holly GOD. I covered my mouth with both hands, looked at my boyfriend, and started squirming. They are too adorable.
10Sweetrae, why don't you want Jim & Pam to get engaged?
11Best. Episode. Ever. I
12I dont think her face fell so much as she realized he might actually be serious.
I cant believe there might be permanent JAM!
13I noticed the look on Pam's face too. Actually, I think it was more a look of "Is he serious, or not?"
My heart stopped for a second when Jim dropped down to one knee.
14I wanted to punch Jim in the arm for faking me out like that...well actually faking Pam out...but I was waiting for it to happen.
15Cocoangel- I don't know exactly, I think they're cute together and I really wanted them to get together throughout the earlier seasons. I guess I feel like there's not enough tension and suspense now that they are together.
16I know what you mean, to a certain extent. They'll probably throw us all a huge curve by making Pam & Jim fight about something or bring back someone to break them up so we have to worry about when they'll get back together.
17UGH!! Stupid Dallas and their Chicken Little media had 'severe' weather news instead of broadcasting the office last night. (Honestly it was some hail and wind.)
Anyway, I haven't seen it yet but I want to!!!
18The chair model was Melora Hardin (Jan) in a black wig. I'm sure of it.
19I actually DO want them to get engaged, because it'd be nice to see ONE couple on tv that was happy and normal and functional. Plus, I love Jim and Pam.
20Okay, I took a screenshot of the chair model. That is totally Melora Hardin, right?
21"Oscar Meyer Weiner Lover." I thought about that this morning and laughed out loud!
22It is totally Melora! That's what I first thought when I saw the picture.
awteena, I agree with you. I love JAM, and to have them do the on/off/on-again thing would be seriously cheesy.
23The on/off/on thing has been done enough on other tv shows. And isn't that just the lazy way to keep up tension and suspense? I'd like to see someone do it with the couple actually being stable.
24Loved this episode!
It was great to finally be really back at the office.
Also, Michael's date with Pam's landlady reminded me of one of David Brent's dates in the original Office (from the Christmas specials, I think). Too funny.
Yay for Jim and Pam!
25When they were joking around about moving in together it was so cute. When Jim told the camera he was not joking and showed the ring, I screamed "OH MY GOD" and i am a huge hopeless romantic and I started to tear up with this huge smile across my face. Hands against my face and all! I think when they were walking it was so pretty with the big yellow tree and sunshine, it would have been so cute for him to do it then, but I think they are going to create fight between them over something small, then they will get back, then he will propose, then the wedding plans will start. I honestly think they are a better tv couple then anything i have seen in a long time. It is cute and not completely driven by sex like other shows, its humble.
Okay I need to calm down, I was just so excited for that! I am not deleting this from my dvr and I think this is up there with "Casino Night"
26Rofl, this had to be one of my favorite Office episodes ever. I loved Kevin's suggestion to Michael (I had to rewind it like, 5 times, because it was so funny) and some of my neighbors heard me scream last night when Jim got down on his knee; I was literally freaking out. Next episode, though!!
27Definitely Melora. Pull up a picture of her and you can see it's all the same facial features. AWESOME, I love this show.
Also I am probably just as excited right now for Jim to pop the question as I was when I knew that my BF was going to do the same!!!
28Great episode! The Office is totally back!
291. Buzz, you totally missed the 'Wendy, hot, juicy red-head!'then proceeded with the order. My husband I literally laughed 2 mins straight:-)
2. the dead chair model...hilarity
3. Pam and Jim, my fav fake couple ever. Oh my goodies, heart was totally in my throat for the-tie-the-shoe thing...I mean it in my throat. I heart them!
4. When Jim bought the ring a week after they were dating. Swoon!
Love this show!(30 Rock is up there too, so funny)
totally. when he got down on one knee, i was shrikeing, jam!!
30yeah... the red-head Wendy.. I laugh so hard that my bro and his friend came to see what I was watching (hey.. they left guitar hero to see this)
aawww and I almost cry for dear sweet Andy...
I did yell when the stupid Jim went one knee... so funny..so funny...
31
32
33Michael telling the people at Wendy's to "just put it aside" for him, and then telling Dwight to go pick it up.....I LIVE for moments like that.
34ahhhh jim... i was yelling DO IT DO IT! at the tv. and he didnt. i bet they'll make us wait til the last episode of the season. either that or something dramatic will happen.
35This whole episode, especially the storyline with Jim and Pam, was so cute! An engagement ring! I think it's really too soon to go down that line, but still... eeee!!
36OMG I had the BIGGEST grin on my face and my heart was racing! I was watching it with my boyfriend and was so excited! haha then I was like "Hey when are YOU gonna propose" ha.
37I died last night. Literally.
(Not literally.)
38I didn't think this episode was as funny as last week's, but every episode is great in their own way!
I seriously got teary-eyed when Jim held up the ring he's going to give to Pam...is it pathetic that I'm SO excited for them to get engaged?! Haha.
And the chair model grave visit at the end was pretty amusing...
39Wolfpackgirl, I agree that we probably won't see Jim and Pam get engaged until the season finale.
I just hope that something doesn't break them up...I have a fear that will happen.
40I'm not so sure guys. I think the look on Pam's face after the engagement banter was more like "Oh my god is he serious? I love him but I'm not ready for an engagement". In other words - I see trouble ahead....
41Was anybody else a little taken aback to notice that, at the end, when Michael and Dwayne were singing "American Pie" that they were actually DANCING ON HER GRAVE?!?
42I love this show sooo much!! The Jim and Pam thing was getting so blah, but this episode almost made me cry. While I was on the treadmill. At.the.gym. And that was right after I had been laughing hysterically through 30 Rock, my fellow gym-mates must think I'm crazy.
I thought it was AWESOME that he got the ring after a week of dating, but only because they had been crushing so long. Ordinary people, yeah, a little creepy.
43I think I almost cried when he bent down..........
Love my Jamz
44I loved this episode, too! Obviously I think that there's going to be a curve ball just to mix the proposal up...maybe Roy is going to come back?
45I love Jim and Pam as well. They have such a fantastic relationship. They are so playful and jokey with each other. It's great. But I did see the look on Pam's face when Jim walked away. But I'm torn as to what it means. Part of me thinks that she was just shocked like, "Is he serious?" but in an excited, anticipatory way. The other part of me thinks that she was worried that he might be serious and she's not ready to get married since she was JUST engaged to someone else and broke off the engagement. I'm not sure she wants to be the girl who breaks off her engagement and then marries the very next guy she dates. Even if that guy is the amazing Jim. Just my thoughts...
46I absolutely loved this episode! I am going to be so nervous in all the future episodes thinking about when Jim will propose! Also, IMDB says the chair model is someone named April Eden, but she does look a lot like Jan in that pic!
47there was definitely a look on jan's face after he said that, but i am also confused as to what look it was. it could be mind v. heart with the conflict over just being engaged to roy and having just planned a wedding, etc. she did drop the hint though when she said she wouldn't move in with someone unless they were engaged... i'm conflicted.
