We're down to six on American Idol, which means one of the smiling faces above won't be around for Andrew Lloyd Webber week. Which singer won't be gracing the Idol stage again? For the answer, just read more.
Kristy Lee Cook certainly wasn't going to win American Idol this year, but you know what? After several weeks of better-than-average-for-her performances, I thought she might get to stick around for a while. Weeks ago, I was begging for this result, but on Wednesday, I was actually a little sad. Brooke's tearful reaction didn't help — I mean, she's a crier anyway, but her tears over Kristy's departure really did seem genuine. In how I imagine the Idol contestants being offstage, I could see them being really close.
So much for my prediction of Carly going home; she wasn't even in the bottom three. That actually gives me some hope for her — I do like her, and I've been a little baffled by the (seeming) lack of public support. Maybe she's getting some momentum at just the right time. Has anyone else noticed how much more cheerful and laid-back and fun she seems during the results shows? I hope she can get over her nerves or whatever is holding her back on stage.
Some other thoughts on Wednesday's show:
- Ah, the famed left side, right side Seacrest elimination trick. Was wondering when we'd see that one. Who guessed the David Cook fakeout? I figured there was something weird going on given the makeup of the groups, but I wasn't sure what it would be.
- I noted yesterday that Mariah Carey night wasn't nearly as painful as I was expecting. What was I expecting, then? Something like the "One Sweet Day" group sing, that's what.
- Would anyone else love to know what Simon whispers to Paula all through every results show?
- I kind of loved Carly calling out the judges being hard on her; Simon, of course, took the "I'm just mean because you can be so great" approach. True? Not true? Discuss.
- Aaaaack! Zombie idols! What a terrifying Ford shoot — especially Archuleta!
- Speaking of Archuleta, anyone else not convinced by his "I've never been happier in my life"?
- David Cook is one classy guy. He could use his personal situation for votes; he doesn't. That, as much as his performances, has completely endeared him to me.
- Going scruffy: The best decision Elliott Yamin ever made.
- Good for Kristy Lee for not just singing her goodbye song, but singing it with confidence — and practically in Simon's lap. Now will someone please give her her horse back?

You've summed up all of my emotions, Buzz! Two weeks ago, I was sooo ready for KLC to go home, then I cried last night when she was eliminated. Poor girl, with the horse and everything.
Archuletta looked like a little monkey in the Ford commercial.
1I was sad to KLC go home, it should've definitely been Carly and Syesha before her.
she's improving and they are just staying where they were for auditions. I hope one of those 2 go next.
2I was actually hoping it'd be Brooke going home over KLC. I told my boyfriend when David C went to the going home side "If he goes home tonight I"m not watching anymore" Luckily they pulled the switcheroo. How pissed do you think Syesha was. And my boyfriend who isn't a big watcher, was watching when David A came out and was saying how happy he was and goes "Yea he looks SUPER STOKED. Like Jumping for Freaking Joy" I mean jeez, when you say how happy you are to be somewhere at least TRY to look like you mean it! I too was impressed with Mariah, she looks great too!
3And I am SO STOKED for next week. I can't wait to hear them singing Andrew Lloyd Weber. AWESOME!!!!
That Zombie commercial was scary!!! I love David Cook. end of story.
4I agree on all counts! Except Yamin, not a fan of the cave man look.
5I am so glad KLC finally went home!
That chick stunk.
She shoulda gone home the 1st week.
6I completely agree Buzz- while I would have welcomed a KLC elimination early on, she didn't deserve to go home last night. She was better than some of the other gals on Tuesday. I never though I'd see Syesha last this long and I get angry after every elimination that she skates through. KLC had mastered being in the bottom three, and she even took her elimination like a champ. Kudos for her for being able to put on an actual performance after getting kicked off. I think she'll do pretty well for herself- she's a smart girl.
I love David Cook. He's just so great.
7KLC definitely had an "improved performance" on the last show, but i agreed with Simon, it was her time to go. Carly is much better than her and while Brooke's performance wasn't her best, i was happy to see her stay for at least one more week, but i definitely think she will be the next to go, Syesha & Jason might join her on the botton 3 next week. Now to the ones on TOP.....my votes were and always will be for David Archuleta & David Cook!
8i LOVED that it took archuleta AGES to realize he was safe...seacrest said it like 15 times, and he's still just sitting there looking dumb.
9All the girls are all going to go eventually. The boys are dominating this season.
10Bye bye Kristy! It was about time! Definitely agree that one of the guys will win
11I am SO glad KLC is gone. Finally. I haven't ever thought she deserved to be there, and then when people who were better singers than her (Chikezie, Ramiele, Michael) started going home instead, I really wanted her gone.
12I, honestly, do not get the appeal of David Cook. I just don't like him. David Archuleta, I'm not sure about. He's cute, and I get why people like him, but he just doesn't sit right with me. There's something too babyish about him. Carly, I haven't liked since the beginning, and I cannot wait for her to go home.
On the other hand, I've loved Brooke and Syesha since their original tryouts. I think Brooke is adorable, and Syesha is really pretty and she has a strong voice. Jason Castro, I used to really not like him very much, but now, over the past few weeks, I have just fallen completely in love with him.
So I'm split. I have three favorites, one who I really don't care whether he stays or goes (Archuleta), and two who I really want to go.
I should know this, but what is David Cook's "situation"?
13GMarie -- someone come a correct me if I am wrong, but I think his situation is his brother has cancer and took a turn for the worse a few weeks ago. The initials on his guitar, I believe are his brothers.
14I did a little dance about KLC going home, FINALLY! But then I felt bad, a little
15and not a
16what? lol
17I'm so glad she is finally gone. She shouldn't of lasted as long as she did..no talent.
18As long as DC Stays im cool
19As long as DC Stays im cool
20I have to say that Brooke White is by far the most annoying contestant since Kimberley Caldwell. So boring. Like watching paint dry.
21it was about time she went home. I like country music, but I didn't like her. and i couldn't stand how she held the microphone. I know, that's pretty petty and i'm nit-picking, but everything about her annoyed me. BLEX! I'm in a 3-way fav tie with Brooke and the Davids.
22Archuletta needs to g-o. He is so boring.
23zombie DC is ok with me, i love zombies
brooke needs to bounce. She is annoying with her stupid pouty faces. I wanted to slap her when Simon told Kristy her time was up and Brooke jus yelled "HEY!"...its like she was scolding a child.
24zombie--I agree with you about Brooke's "HEY!" thing. Yeah, I know, it was to protect her friend, but sheesh. Chill.
I like Elliott with the goatee/short hair look he's rocked before. And I still can't get over how nice his teeth look. I always thought he was cute, but sometimes it's like, "Whoa, that's Elliott?"
Also, I'm astonished that they've brought him back twice now. That's quite
a feat for a contestant who 1) came in 3rd, 2) signed with an independent label and not 19E (if I remember correctly), and 3) is not awesomely annoying and full of himself. (OK, so point #3
is not relevant at all, just my opinion).
I'm thinking Cook's gonna take it this year. But, even though I'm not his biggest fan, it's almost kinda like I'd rather see him sing these covers of songs and twist them around...you know? I'm sure he'd be good with more Daughtry-esque songs, but it would be cool if he put out an album of Cook-ed covers.
25i kinda dont want DC to win just because i know IDOL always makes them do really crappy albums when they win, and i'd rather hear songs that are more DC than jus over processed songs that don't really sound like him.
26FINALLY! I've been waiting for her to leave, ever since the top 12..
27Yay! KLC is gone. And I agree with Simon re: Carly. The girl had a major lable contract. She's better than what she's been doing on that stage week after week. Pull it together, Carly.
28Finally! Yes, KLC was improving, but she should've gone before so many others. Plus I will never forget that horrific version of Eight Days a Week. Worst Idol performance ever.
29I was glad to see Kristy go home
30finally!! i wish archuletta would go home, i'm so bored of him. and brooke, shes not that good. :/
31I totally agree with you Buzz, David Cook is such a classy guy! I really respect him for not using his family crisis to get vote unlike..umm Brooke White who uses every opportunity to state that she is missing her sister's wedding. I love David Cook, he seems like a really cool guy.
I wanted to hug David A, poor guy, that results show must have given him 50 ulcers. He was so spaced out when Ryan told him he's safe. hahaha. And I loved when he sat down in the middle of the stage refusing to pick a side. I think he's incapable of hurting anyone's feelings and when put in that position he looked like he was going to get an anxiety attack. I LOVED it when David Cook joined him on the floor, it was so cute. That shoulder squeeze was precious.
David A has been starting to look a little subdued recently...I hope he's okay. I wasn't utterly convinced when he said this was the happiest he's been in his life. He just seems like a pure soul and I'm guessing the ugliness of showbiz is dragging him down a little.
I too was a little sad to see Kristy Lee go. I was really surprised that I was. I thought it was great when she was serenading Simon and he started blushing!
32Maybe David A reads mean comments about him on message boards and that's why he looks a little down. I hope he doesnt read them. The last thing he needs is bad energy.
33Yay! I've been waiting for KLC to get kicked off for awhile now. But even I have to agree that she's definitely been improving. I was happy with the bottom three. Syesha drives me nuts and thinks she's WAY better than she actually is. And Brooke just did not make "Hero" work for me. I love seeing Carly when she finds out she isn't in the bottom three....she's so excited!
