If you're anything like me, the opening theme music and credit sequences to your favorite TV shows will sometimes cause me to have goosebumps. It sounds silly, but think about it. At this point, my nostalgic longing for My So-Called Life nearly brings me to tears when I hear those first notes of music as well as the hushed "Go, now! Go!" And there was a time when the opening credits sequence for ER functioned as a kind of call to action for my emotions — before anything actually happened on the show itself!
I have friends who swoon at the opening sequence for Gilmore Girls ("If you're out on the road/ Feeling lonely, and so cold. . ."), and of course the jazzy opening music for Sex and the City is like a good feelings trigger for many women (I once heard that theme music as someone's ring tone on a bus, and all the women on the bus started laughing — happily). I'll also always have a soft spot for the Ally McBeal opening sequence ("I've been searchin' my soul tonight!") as well as the one from The West Wing.

1Saved By the Bell is always catchy and I love watching the old Cosby openings...but like you Buzz I love MSCL--I had the CD and it was on there and I would listen to that over and over again!
2My husband always thought the Gilmore Girls opening was "Get your ass on the road." Heh.
I am very partial to the opening of Friday Night Lights. It gives me happy goosebumps when the music starts in.
3I LOVE Sex and the City, Saved by the Bell, C.S.I and Law & Order. They get stuck in my head.
4I love love love good open credits. They totally set the mood for a show.
In terms of sheer prettiness, HBO shows win every time (Band of Brothers' opening theme moves me every time), but I'm still partial to Friday Night Lights. And while Dexter's opening theme creeps me out every. single. time. whoever made it is a genius.
5West Wing, Friday Night Lights and Everwood. However, I do get giddy whenever I hear the Office theme song - even as a ringtone.
Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows of all time, but the theme song has always bugged me.
6I love the opening to Buffy! Also, the themesong to the animated version of The Tick gets stuck in my head sometimes. It's so catchy. Duh-dweee-duh-duh-duh-dwee-dow!

the office for sure - i rarely fast forward through it when i DVR the show.
20West Wing, definitely. There's something so inherently classy and dignified about the the theme music - that it sets the tone for the rest of the show.
For similar reasons, I also love the theme to How I met your mother - the music, and the pictures really tell everything about the show you're about to watch.
I liked the opening to Weeds and Gilmore Girls the first couple of times, but got bored of them quickly and ended up fast-forwarding over them.
21Currently I'd say House MD. But my favorite all time was Carnivale. I really hate HBO for canceling that show.

34I love Lost's opening credits. The logo and sound effect are so creepy and very effective.
35I love all opening sequences. My mom and my fiance are both the kind of people who will netflix a series and then skip the openeing sequence and go staright to the show and that drives me nuts. I can't get as into the show without the opening. Some great ones are The Sopranos, Sex and the city, The Cosby show , Family Ties, and Cheers. I can still remeber the songs from most of my favorite childhood shows by heart and they do evoke a surprising amount of emotion

Mad Men is awesome. Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, The Wonder Years, Jem and the Holograms, Punky Brewster (the song literally makes me tear up when I hear it now, such nostalgia!), Bewitched/I Dream of Jeannie, and.............. THAT GIRL. The cold opens were the coolest ever.

Love Boat- if there ever was a show that brought out the cheesiest part of me it was that one, and the theme song just cemented it for me. "Love.....exciting and neeeew....come aboard....were expecting youuuuuuuuuu....THA love Booooooaaaat"
Little House on the Prairie- to this day makes me cry listening to it, and the credits music makes me happy again
