Cinematical has some tidbits from today's Disney/Pixar Animation Presentation in New York City, including news about upcoming Disney movies. One of the projects on the list is a CGI version of Rapunzel, which is apparently "the first classic Disney story being done in CGI."
This got me thinking protective thoughts about my personal favorites in the old-school Disney collection (read: before the Pixar collaboration). If I heard news of an "updated" CGI version of Lady and the Tramp, I would probably burst into tears.
What's your favorite pre-Pixar animated Disney movie? I know there are many more titles than just these, but I decided to stop the options with The Lion King (1994) before the Disney-Pixar projects started up, like Toy Story (1995).

Wow- it's so impossible for me to choose. I was a big fan of the ones with animals, so Oliver and Company was my favorite as a kid, but I also loved Robin Hood, Fox and the Hound, and 101 Dalmatians. Seriously, though, I'm a Disney freak and love them all! I hope they don't redo any of the classics and stick to Pixar's awesome arsenal of original material.
absolutely Cinderella. The ultimate fairy tale!
The Little Mermaid. Peter Pan's a close second.
As a child, "Lady and the Tramp" was my favorite, but my interest shifted toward "Fantasia" during adolescence.
wow, how could you leave out 101 Dalmations and Robin Hood?
Alice in Wonderland?? Although that is my favorite now, I have to say "The Little Mermaid" still is a close second.
I would feel a traitor if I didn't vote for Cinderella since I watched it every day after kindergarten. A preview for Oliver and Company is at the beginning of my copy on VHS, and I've got it totally memorized still, but I haven't even seen the movie.
Way to forget Pinocchio.
Oh! Did ya'll hear about the new Disney princess? "The Frog Princess" is coming out sometime next year. It's the "old school" cartoon style as well. I'm excited to see it.

i really loved robin hood!
My kids watch all the time. We still have all of these on VHS
My 2 year old LOVES The Little Mermaid
jasmint- your comment made me laugh as I can say the exact same thing. I remember that preview for Oliver and Company so well, but I can't remember ever seeing the movie itself, haha! I was such a Disney kid growing up so picking just one of these was so hard. I remember watching The Little Mermaid over and over again so I had to go with that one. I LOVE Dumbo, Peter Pan, The Fox and the Hound, heck...all of them!
Beauty and the Beast hands down....and also because my daughter bears a striking resemblance to Belle.
i was really obsessed with the lion king as a child, embarrassing...
but i like the little mermaid, beauty and the beast, lady and the tramp, aladdin, and 101 dalmatians!
I am all for the Lion King, but mostly because the Fox and the Hound wasn't an option. That's one of my all time favorites and the first film that ever made me cry.
I couldn't decide between The Little mermaid and Beauty and Beast. I choose the latter for the message this story brought.
I also love Dumbo, the flying elephant. I was so rooting for little Dumbo and he was so cute!
I liked the classic artwork in Sleeping Beauty.
Sleeping Beauty, hands down.
I loved so many of them! Its hard to just pick one.
The Emperor's New Groove! Not just for llama enthusiasts, this movie has a great brand of humor.
LOVED oliver and company
I picked Lady and the Tramp. But I love Dumbo just as much if not more. You can't go wrong with the pink elephants!
Aladdin, because I went to see it with my grandma, at her request
Second would be
Cinderella for sure.
The AristoCats! Followed closely by The Rescuers and The Black Claudron.
Ah, takes me back to when I was an animation major. 4 years wasted toling behind a desk under a hot desk lamp staring at a light box until you're blind. Old school drawing on paper then on transparent cells. Ah the back breaking labor intensive fun !
I loved The Little Mermaid.. I actually went back and saw it again recently. But you can't really beat Beauty and the Beast; the animation and music in that movie is spectacular. Ariel and Belle were always my two favorite princesses, because I felt I could relate so well to both of them.
I like a lot of Disney movies. My all time favorite as a little girl was Sleeping Beauty. I also loved the newer ones like Aladdin and the Lion King.
I wish I could have had more than one vote!
beauty and the beast was the first movie i saw in the theaters (not that i really remember going) so i had to go with that one but the little mermaid is a close second becuase everything i owned as i kid was related to that movie
Beauty & The Beast, i always thought i was Belle with the fact that she was such a bookworm.
little mermaid and lion king
My favorite is The Sword and the Stone. LOVED the squirrels in that movie. I also really like Dumbo (made me cry), The Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, Aladdin, and The Emperor's New Groove. It's so hard to choose just one! They all bring back great childhood memories!
Sleeping Beauty and older ones in general. I miss that kind of animation. I don't really care for computer animation.
Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland are my favourites!!!
Dumbo!
I don't think this poll is as accurate as it could be just because everybody's age has a way of getting involved. The younger crowd is probably going to vote for Beauty and the Beast or the Little Mermaid, where an older generation like me voted for something from the 50's. Just sayin.
Bambi for sure.
It's always been Beauty and the Beast.
Cinderella - Ever since I was a little girl. I love that movie.
So hard to choose!! I voted Lady and the Tramp, though.
Beauty & The Beast, although Snow White is also a lovely film.
Definitely has to be Beauty and the Beast. One of my all-time favorite movies, and The Little Mermaid is a close second. Aladdin & The Lion King are also very good.
Apparently I loved Pinocchio. My parents say I watched it all the time.
i would say both the little mermaid and the lion king. i miss drawn animation...the new computer animated movies dont do anything for me.
Dumbo. That movie was on repeat for most of 1984.
Beauty and the Beast, The Rescuers, Peter Pan, Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, 101 Dalmatians, and Mulan are my favorites.
Oh, and I forgot The Great Mouse Detective. I think that one's underrated.
I picked Lion King but my sisters and i still watch The Emperors New Groove and The Road To Eldarado for a few giggles..
Hercules because Megara kicks ass and the gods are totally cool.
And Hades was just too awesome.
The Lion King! I remember being 5 when I got it on VHS for Christmas. I watched it two times a day, every day during the Christmas break. I knew (and probably still know) every line!
Beauty and the Beast, and then Little Mermaid. I used to have the movie soundtracks memorized.
