Isn't that the kind of question only Fox would ask? The new Mark Burnett-produced, Jeff Foxworthy-hosted game show premieres tonight after the "American Idol" performance episode. And Fox is hoping "Smarter" can ride the post-"Idol" wave all week: It's on after the Wednesday and Thursday shows, too. These first two episodes are half-hour "preview" episodes, and starting on Thursday, the show will be an hour long.
While I love me a good redneck joke every now and then, I'm not sure I can handle an hour of Foxworthy as the host (also, note to Jeff: the glasses don't make you look smarter). I'd be tempted to give this one a pass altogether, if not for two things:
- The peanut gallery of young'uns whose job is to heckle the adult contestants, and
- My sneaking suspicion that most of America is, in fact, dumber than a fifth grader
For the record, I only got 8 out of 10 right on this fifth-grade trivia quiz. I'm pretty sure that would have gotten me a C in my elementary school. To watch a promo for the show, read more

I got 9! Turtles and ostriches can confuse us all!
1Darn, I only got 7/10! Lucky guess on the last one.
2the things kids learn in 5th grade aren't helpful to anyone in everyday life. why does anyone need to know what the fastest bird is? 10 and 11 year olds need to start thinking about how they fit into the world, understand that all people deserve to be treated with respect and that as children they still have much to learn about the world. other than showing us the usless information kids remember long enough to get through 5th grade this show has no purpose.
38/10 is an 80 percent so that's at least a low B not a C! good job!
4and i got 9/10. yay!
5only 8/10
6Worst show EVER.
7Hi, cool post. I have been wondering about this topic,so thanks for writing.
8Hi, good post. I have been wondering about this issue,so thanks for posting. I’ll definitely be coming back
9I absolutely love this program
10I viewed an episode and fell about laughing. The contestants know little about any other country but America (had no idea where Canberra was). Could not identify Sir Edmond Hilary as the man who first climbed Mt Everest. Did not know who wrote "A Christmas Carol". As an Australian teacher who has worked in American based international schools I was constantly amazed at the lack of world knowledge possessed by students who followed the U.S. curriculum.
