As my girl in the UK pointed out, Leona Lewis' single "Bleeding Love" from her upcoming album Spirit is No. 1 on the American Billboard Hot 100 right now. Lewis is the winner of the British TV show X Factor and has folks like Simon Cowell and Clive Davis heavily invested in her success.
However, based on this song "Bleeding Love," her voice is strong but I'm not sure I can hear Xtina or Whitney material in there.
I'll keep an open mind, but for all the publicity Lewis is getting, I wonder if she'll be able to live up to the hype when her album drops here in the U.S. on April 18.

I love Leona! She has such an amazing voice.
1I do think she has what it takes. I love all her songs I've heard thus far!
2I love that song and she has an amazing voice! I hope her album lives up to the hype because she could be the new Mariah.
3if you had watched x factor buzz you would know what an amazing voice she has, this girl is talented.
4OMG i love her. she's just so sweet and humble. and her voice...ahhhh!
5Not a huge fan of that Bleeding Love song and I KNOW it's going to be overplayed on the radio, making me even less fond of it...but I like her voice and think there's some definite potential there.
6Bleeding Love is by far the highlight on her album, she is a talented vocalist but "super diva" is going a bit far. She doesn't have the same x factor as Whitney, Christina and Mariah, the charisma is missing and her album is not full of great potential hits.
The success has been a lot to do with the intense campaign funded by Simon Cowell and Clive Davis, it will be interesting to see what happens when other songs are released from the album and indeed whether the album can also sell well. I don't believe "Spirit" deserves to be a top3 album in the US, it's pretty boring and just not enough strong songs.
7I like her, she's got a great voice.I just hope she stays more under the radar, I can't stand it when artists become overly-mainstreamed.
8She has a great voice but I think that single is a little weak.
9Comparing her to Christina makes me laugh. Ugh did anyone think CHristina was amazing from her first album? It was cheesy and super studio, just like this song is. Hopefully she can do other stuff after she fulfills her requirements to do cheese like this. I think she'll be awesome
10I love this song and I love her! I kept hearing the song on the radio but couldn't figure out who it was. Then I saw her on Oprah with Simon...LOVED IT!! I put her on myspace and haven't moved it off. Maybe give her some time and another single to get out.
And Renee, I agree about the Christina thing:). I hated Genie in a Bottle and thought her lip-synching was awful!! Although I admit to liking many of her songs since then.
11I've been listening to her album for a while now and I really like it. She has an excellent voice, though I will say that the songs aren't super exciting.
I'm not sure how much hype is surrounding her.. but I hope it's not too much, because I think hype is almost always a bad thing!
12I agree with the whole Christina thing. I mean when I think Diva X-tina is far far far from who I think of first. I think more Whitney, Celine, Aretha, even Mariah but not her. Xtina I think Britney wannabe (the success part) or even Jessica Simpson even though X-tina is WAYYY more talented than them I just think those guys are more her level.
Anyways, I really like this girl I saw her on Oprah and she was just SO sweet and nice voice. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what she can do. Longevity is most important!
13i agree with you ladies on the christina thing. this is leona'ss first album, it's too damn early to start making comparison....i really, really loath when people do this to almost every female singers that come out, comparing them to more established singers, and then commenting on how that singer isn't nothing like so and so or doesn't have the potential.
but do you ever hear this from male singers/rappers/etc? not so much.
why can't we just be glad that the music industry is finally going to get someobe who will actually going to continue being sweet and humble while maintaining her music career.
14She has the team and the songs to do it but she doesn't have the voice. Her voice is nice but that's the extent to which it can go based on what she's produced with Spirit.. over time, she may or may not become a 'great' but one thing's for sure, she doesn't have the voice yet..
15Absolutely love her, I love her even more since I can totally relate to this song.
16I don't think so, but she does have a great voice. And she's gorgeous, her eyes are amazing.
17i find 'bleeding love' really boring but people have respond to it with positive reaction so i wouldn't be surprise if she did well over her.
18you gals should have watched x-factor. She DOES have the voice. She did "I will always love you," almost BETTER than the original. This girl's the real deal.
19Isn't kind of sad that in our culture we feel compelled to compare and contrast all the time? I think she has a good voice, and she doesn't need to be better than anyone for me to enjoy it. I think Whitney, Christina, Mariah, and Aretha all have their own thing going on too. They are all amazing singers, but they have their own strengths and weaknesses.
There is plenty of room for successful women in music.
20Not a fan of bleeding love, but she's a nice girl.
But I don't think she has the voice to be on diva level. Whitney, Christina, Mariah, Celine, those women have voices that can give you goosebumps. I'm not feeling that with Leona. She reminds me of a Rihanna type (really pretty, barely talented), but she has more of a voice.
21Oh, i didn't realize there was an american version of the video, the one posted if different than the one airing in the UK....
22ooh, buzz--you posted the american version of the vid. Too bad--the british version is legions better.

24Better In Time and I Will Be are fantastic-
