Oliver Stone is trucking right along with his George Bush biopic, W, for which Josh Brolin has already been tapped to play the current President. Today there's news about the woman Stone wants to portray First Lady Laura Bush: funny lady Elizabeth Banks.
This just cracks me up. Banks is so good at the fun, campy comedic stuff (or, in the case of Wet Hot American Summer, the fun comedies set at camp), like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and her recurring role on Scrubs. I think she's a great, capable actress, but the idea of her playing Laura Bush — especially walking off the set of the Kevin Smith movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno and into the White House — strikes me as rather hilarious.
Political movie role aspirations aside, Banks is everywhere these days. After starring in Definitely, Maybe, she went to work with her costar Seth Rogen on Porno, will appear alongside Paul Rudd in Little Big Men, and in the coming months she can be found in both Meet Dave (with Eddie Murphy) and Meet Bill (with Aaron Eckhart).

Huh. I'm a fan of most of the movies I've seen her in so I'm curious to see how she does in a dramatic role.
I'm so happy to see that Josh Brolin is doing so well, by the way. It seems like he's everywhere these days. I haven't seen "American Gangster" or "In the Valley of Elah" yet but he was fantastic in "No Country" and hilarious and sadistic in "Grindhouse."
Little Brand Walsh is all growed up.
1Does anyone else think she's way to young for this role?
2Ah, give her a couple of valiums and she'll be a great Laura. She does seem too young but that's not an insurmountable obstacle to her doing well.
3I would rather clean prison toilets with a tooth brush than pay to see a film about GWB and his family.
4I think the movie will cover many years of GWB's life, so she may be playing Laura Bush in her younger years? That would be my guess.
5I think she's great casting. Elizabeth can do drama. She was very good in Seabiscuit.
6Great casting, but honestly, I'll pass on this one or add it to the bottom of my "waitflix" list.
7She does kind of look like her, but I think it's ridiculous that they always cast SUCH younger women for more mature roles. There are a lot of amazing older actresses out there.
8I agree, she looks too young to play Laura Bush.
9Although I'll probably want to throw up after I see the movie, the lineup of actors will help me overcome the urge and I would go see it.
I love Oliver Stone.
