If Addison Montgomery really leaves Seattle Grace, she might not need to take Mark Sloane with her. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Taye Diggs will star alongside Kate Walsh in the as-yet-untitled "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff announced yesterday.
According to the story, the pilot episode would show Addison on the verge of leaving Seattle Grace, and if ABC picked up the show, she'd be gone. (Too bad, because I kind of wanted her to be chief.) There's no word yet on who Diggs would play.
I know I'm one of three people who watched Diggs' last project, "Day Break," but he totally won me over there. I could see him being a strong enough presence to hold his own with Walsh, and he's not tough on the eyes, either. I've been giving this spinoff a lot of thought, so read more
While it's cool to learn more about the cast, I wish I had a better sense of what this show would actually be about. After a day of thinking on it, I still think a spinoff seems too sudden and too disruptive to what "Grey's" already has going for it. I know some of you think it will work, though, and I'm ready to be convinced. Comment and tell why this is a good move. Also, anyone got a good potential title? My favorite so far, from TV Guide: "Montgomery's Ward."

He is so hot, I wonder if he and Addison will be friends with benefits? Any news on Mark coming to this show too?
1I can't stand this creature. I will for sure not watch the show now.
2I'm not too keen on the spin-off. And given Taye Digg's history with tv shows, I wouldn't want him on my show.
Style Before Comfort!
3I'm willing to watch to see if it has potential, but I worry that both shows will suffer. Just wish we knew a bit more about why Shondra thinks this is a good move and about the plot details. "Montgomery's Ward"? Oh, my!
4Taye Diggs definitely gets two thumbs down...he is gross.
5He is definitely a hottie. I don't watch Grey's but if he joins the spin off I might just have to tune in and see how it is!
6Much as I love Mr. Diggs, I can't think that a spin-off with her will be all that great. Don't the better spin-offs usually work because the characters that leave were peripheral on the original show and therefore weren't missed? Examples:
"The Jeffersons" (Archie Bunker's neighbors--before they got rich--on "All in the Family")
"Frasier"--Frasier Crane did date Diane on Cheers, but after she left the show, he was just another patron--it isn't like Sam or Woody started their own bar.
"Facts of Life"--Kimberly, from "Diff'rent Strokes" *briefly* went to Peekskill, the girls school featured in this spin-off, but didn't remain a main character)
"Melrose Place"--one of the 90210 girls--I forget exactly, maybe Kelly?--flirted with an older man in the Melrose place apartment complex.
I'm sure there are more spin-off examples that y'all can think of, but only situation that I recall in which a major character left a show and his/her spin-off succeeded is Denise (Lisa Bonet's character on "The Cosby Show") going to the college featured on the show "A Different World," and that show went on long after she--and therefore any connection to the "Cosby Show"--was gone.
That said, if the Addison spin-off does happen, I'll definitely check out a few episodes to at least give it a shot.
7I like all my characters in one place, thank you. Angel worked, but Addison needs to stay in Seattle Grace.
8I am adamantly opposed to Addison leaving Seattle Grace and ABC creating some sort of spin-off series. That being said, I adore Taye Diggs and I will DEFINITELY watch it if he's a part of it.
9i agree with LaLa he is just bad luck!
10Hooray -- damm -- that is one fine brotha!
11Stop adding people to the Grey's spin-off! I don't want it to happen. Don't spin-offs only happen when the show is over, anyway?
12blech... this guy ruins any show he is on... please no spinoff!!
