Well, fiddle-di-dee, it's that time again! Every Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. In honor of the Oscars, this week's selection is one of Hollywood's greatest productions: Gone With the Wind.
This sweeping epic swept the Academy Awards in 1940; the picture was nominated for 13 awards and won 8, including Best Picture. What's more, Hattie McDaniel became the first black actor to win an Oscar when she won Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Mammy.
If Gone With the Wind were made today, who would you cast as spoiled Scarlett O'Hara? Who could play the dashing Rhett Butler and gentlemanly Ashley Wilkes? Melanie - Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway
Ashley - I think Ryan Gosling would be good here as well. He's mild mannered and unimposing, but cute enough that a wild one like Scarlett would love him.

i love the clive owen and hugh jackman suggestions for rhett.
19as for scarlett o'hara, there just isn't anyone currently out there who can fill vivien leigh's shoes without that actor being completely under-whelming. i also think that jude law is a good suggestion for ashley; and queen latifah for mammy is good. again, as with the other female lead, melanie, i can't think of anyone current who could so completely inhabit the strength, purity and kindness of that character without it coming off all wrong or weak. fun idea though...let's hope it never happens.

This is one of my favorite movies and me and my roommates have actually discussed this before. So I'm really excited about this!

Scarlett O'Hara: Renee Zellweger
I think she would do great in a Southern belle role bc she is after all from Texas! Plus she can go between the cutesy Scarlett demanding all the boys attention as well as the really dramatic scenes during the war and at Tara.
Rhett Butler: George Clooney
No one else could do like him! He's got the perfect charm and good looks to pull it off!
Mammy: Chandra Wilson
She's loud and as we can see from Grey's she can speak her mind. I think she would be wonderful.
Melanie Hamilton: Kate Bosworth
She can be graceful and kind plus right now she looks on the frail side so that helps.
Ashley Wilkes: Josh Lucas
He southern accent and southern looks make him perfect for the part!

23OMGoodness! I read this and thought I have no idea who might even work. Now reading everyone's comments, I guess it could be done. Some of the people are a surprise (Sophia Bush) but after a little thought she'd probably rock in that role.

I think these actors have the star power and the talent to pull off this film if the movie industry was lame enough to consider a remake. However, it will be near to impossible to improve on perfection and I believe everyone will agree the original was perfectly cast.
