Critical darling — and personal fave — "Friday Night Lights" has struggled in the ratings all season, but there was a bright spot last week. The show recorded recorded one of its best nights since the premiere, and on Valentine's Day night, no less. Still, it remains to be seen if that surge (plus the consistently great writing and Kyle Chandler's perfectly mussed hair, of course) will be enough to nab the show a second season.
So some fans have decided not to sit back and wait. They've devised a pretty awesome "care package" to show NBC just how much love "Friday Night Lights" gets. Viewers will send the packages to NBC; to hear what's inside (this is pretty funny), read more
Playing on the Dillon Panthers' motto of "clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose," the care packages contain:
- A bottle of Clear Eyes eye drops
- Foam hearts
- A foam football tagged with "can't lose our 'Friday Night Lights'"
Too cute! More information, including where to send the packages, can be found over here. I'm still not sure how "Friday Night Lights" could expand its stories into a second season, but I'd love it if the writers got a chance to try. Guess I'd better go buy my football.

FNL is one of my must-see shows each week. I really care about what happens to each of the characters each week, especially Coach Taylor, Tami, Julie, Matt, and Grandma. If only enough people realized that FNL was so much more than a story about football, they'd be watching. Count me in on this campaign to save what has to be one of the best shows on right now. Go Panthers!
1I can't think of a show I'd want to watch less than this one. Not just because it has to do with football, but high school football an even bigger waste of time and money.
2Candera - you've obviously never seen this show....
3Yeah, and not planning on it.. Give me my PBS!
4but how can you be so negative over something you've never seen??
5I guess I just hate sports. All but Wii Sports of course.
6ahhh.... candera, this show isn't about sports.. i'm not a sports fan AT ALL... i don't think i can name more than two football teams offhand and i really love this show.... and i also love pbs shows.... so , in my (very esteemed) opinion, you should give it a chance!
7I'll Tivo one for the sake of keeping an open mind.. No Promises tho.
8yey!
9Liza, I'm with you. And, thanks, Candrea for giving FNL a chance. The obsession with winning football games is what unites the town, but the show is so much more than football; it's about real people confronting real situations. Zach Gilford who plays Matt is one of the best young actors there is; he never disappoints.
10Candera, I can't tell you how much you'll like this show. Like LT was saying, this show is more of a character dirven drama with high school football as a backdrop to the real action. I love sports and started watching it because I love football, but you keep tuning in each week because you start to care about the characters and their relationships.
11So long as it doesn't conflict with Heroes, Greys, or Studio 60..
12This show has always been toooo good. It could not possibly last.
13I will seriously cry if this show goes off the air. I was just like Candera when I first heard about it - my friend Eliza texted me, "Watch Friday Night Lights tonight, NBC!" on the new of the pilot (her brother is Zach). I watched it just to see how Zach was, and I've been hooked ever since! It's really not about football at all - think of how many people "hate football" in the show - Tyra, Julie, Tammie Taylor (sort of), Landry... I mean, yes, they all show up to the games, but everyone realizes that there's so much more to life than just football. The show is really beautiful. And real. Tonight's show (when Julie's mom confronted her about Matt buying condoms) was so f'ing real! It's not an After School Special - things don't get fixed at the end. Everything just keeps going. Because that's life. And it's great.
14I'm so glad I get to read about other people that love the show on here!
That care package does sound cute.
