America Ferrera says the worst part about playing Betty Suarez is wearing Betty's layered outfits. But for me, her outlandishly bad wardrobe is the best thing about "Ugly Betty" (well, second only to Wilhelmina's zingers).
Betty always seems to know the least-fashionable look for any situation: the Guadalajara poncho, the apliqued holiday sweater, all those polyester tie-neck blouses that look like they came from my grandma's closet ... I could go on, but I'd rather let Betty's fashion flops speak for themselves. Which so-bad-it's-good outfit is your favorite? I just love this show.
1The outfit she is wearing in the pix with Daniel is, well,...truly ugly, but so perfect for the moment. I'm with Hope; I love how this show has evolved. (The second picture in the top row makes me laugh; I swear I once had an outfit like this!)
2The dress she wore at the fancy dinner is by far my favorite. Usually I just look at her outfits with loving disapproval, but that one made me laugh out loud!
3LOL -- I love it even though it's really, really, REALLY bad!
4What's so great that it's awful about all her layered looks is that the pieces would be great if they were worn differently. If she wore the tie-neck blouses with a great pair of slouchy trousers, she would look great! And some of those skirts would be adorable with a simple turtleneck or long sleeve tee and great, knee-high boots.
Unchanged, though, my favorite is the butterfly!
5Oh, and I almost forgot about the day when Hilda dresses her up. Disaster!
I agree that some of her individual pieces aren't so bad. Even though I love her the way she is, I kind of keep hoping for a "The Devil Wears Prada" makeover. I suppose I should get over it...
6I actually would hate a devil wears prada makeover, because that's so un-Betty. I would love to see her slowly getting better without anyone helping (except maybe Christina tossing her swag now and then) or even noticing, until one day, they're like, "wait a minute... something's different here..." I think that moment with Amanda and Mark would be priceless.
7i'm partial to the queens makeover myself...it was so gloriously hideous, yet she had the cojones/ovaries(?) to do that, you just have to shake your head and just let her be. love ya betta la fea!
8I wonder, is it hard to do dress her bad? Seams like you really need to think to put that with this and to make it look so it looks bad....
