Salma Hakek woke up bright and early this morning to announce the nominations for the 79th Annual Academy Awards. There were some pleasant surprises (I didn't really think Dreamgirls was Best Picture worthy) and some total shockers compared with my predictions. To see how I did, use this key:

Wow, I'm actually really glad to see some surprises in there! No nomination for Leo for The Departed (he was nominated for Blood Diamond), but his co-star Mark Wahlberg got a much-deserved nod. Tune in later today for more analysis, and until then, check out the nominees and tell me what you think!

Wow, surprised about Leo not getting nominated for The Departed, but I am glad he was for Blood Diamond. I am a bit surprised by Jack not getting a nom either, but YAY for Mark Wahlberg. I have not seen Half Nelson but I hear Ryan Gosling is amazing in it so good for him.
I was pleasantly surprised by all the noms for Blood Diamond! And yeah for Meryl Streep!
1having seen pix of Salma Hayek at the Golden Globes and this morning at the Oscar nominations, I think she's pregnant.

2I'm not surprised with the choices for the Best Actress competition. I also didn't expect Leo to be chosen for 'Blood Diamond' instead of 'The Departed,' but good for him regardless to make one of the 5 slots.
I'm thrilled for Mark Wahlberg and Ryan Gosling because they were underdogs.
'Dreamgirls' was shut out for Best Picture, but Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson were definite locks, so at least they were recognized.
Big Yay for Clint Eastwood, Penelope Cruz, Helen Mirren and Peter O'Toole as other personal faves!
I admire the Oscars for looking beyond Hollywood for talent in the acting categories. It just goes to show that H-wood isn't the only place that makes exemplary movies and boasts the best talent.
3I totally misunderstood when I was watching the "Today" show this morning. I thought they said "Dreamgirls" didn't get any noms but now I see it was just that they didn't get a Best Pic nom. I'm glad Jennifer Hudson made it. Don't know why people are so shocked about Beyonce not being in there. She's just not one of my fave peeps.
4a couple of shockers, no dreamgirls , no brad?
5i hope children of men win something, i love everything that clive owen does.
6YEAH RYAN GOSLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7Wow Buzz, you did great on your predictions!
8Buzz, Volver wasn't nominated for foreign language?
9I am surprised that DiCaprio's mediocre performance in Blood Diamond got a nomination. I am also surprised by Streep's nomination. I guess this is one instance where name recognition went a long way.
I am very happy that Gosling was nominated for Half Nelson as his performance was excellent. However, the real winner here is Forest Whittaker. He is excellent in The Last King of Scotland and deserves to win this one.
10Shocked that Children of Men did not make the Best Picture list nor did Clive rate a nomination for his awesome role in this film.
11I knew Marie Antoinette would get a nod for best costume design. The costumes were basically the best part of that movie. Beyonce not getting nominated is definitely not a shocker at all. Jennifer was the main part and standout performance.
12Beyonce must be so let down by her no-nom.. She's been going on and on about how she wont be satisfied until she gets an oscar blah blah blah. Well, she wasn't the most deserving this time around anyway.

Marie Antoinette should win for costume design! I'd like Ryan Gosling to win Best Actor but I dunno, I think Leo should win an Oscar he's a great actor but he never wins. Forest Whitaker is most likely gonna win. With all the hype with Jennifer Hudson right now, I wonder what would happen if she DIDN'T win? I haven't seen Dreamgirls but her whole journey to "fame" is all fascinating to everyone and she's celebrated on every magazine cover as if she had already won. I'm glad she got nominated she deserves it more than beyonce. Personally i don't think beyonce's a good actress. She's a hell of a singer but actress, not so much.
