So last night was Britney Spears' big acting comeback on How I Met Your Mother, and if the goal was to get some big ratings for the on-the-bubble comedy, it worked: The show pulled in 10.6 million viewers and hit its highest ratings ever in the key 18-49 demographic. Coupled with the better than average 9.7 million viewers the show got last week, I have to think things are looking pretty good for a season four.
Personally, I thought the best part of the episode was Ted's two-minute date (watch it here), and I definitely think Stella was supposed to be the mother — had that whole Alicia Silverstone/Britney/Sarah Chalke thing not happened, that is. So, was having Britney on the show worth it? What did you make of her performance?

I dont think she took anything away form the show but she did try a little too hard. Acting isnt really supposed to look like acting and she looked like she was trying really hard to act well. Other than that she was good. She would get a high five from me.
I totally agree with Taadie about her acting. She was trying REALLY hard, but she didn't ruin it by any means.
Ted's two minute date was downright adorable! I absolutely loved it! My bf thought the same thing about how Stella would have been the mother if it weren't for the issue with casting, but I disagree. First, I thought the Scrubs chick was great and I don't think I would have liked Alicia Silverstone nearly as much in that role. Plus they added that line about the St. Paddy's Day party, what makes you think that it's not the mom? Do you really think they would have changed it just because of an actress? I don't know...could be another red herring- don't forget that chick that he noticeably bumped into in last week's episode!
Personally, I'm not ready to know who the mother is yet! I feel like that would be the end of the show...
I'm just glad so much more attention is being brought to the show because of this! It's so underrated!
i thought britney did a decent job- lets face it- her skills don't really include acting but that said she was endearing and had good energy. she definitely didn't ruin it
I thought it was a fun episode and Britney did just fine
I thought she did a good job it was refreshing to see her in the spotlight for something other lip-sinking, bad parenting, or unintentional nudity. Also, it looks like she has a sense of humor about herself which is positive.
She did good. I was glad the show didn't focus too much on her character. It made seem like the case with the week long previews.
Will it earn her an Emmy? No. Have I seen similarly not-awesome acting on sitcoms before? Yep. Glad to see her doing something positive, and hearing encouraging words is likely to help her out.
I thought the writing on this show, which I haven't been watching, was great overall as was the acting. Britney was good and fun to watch. The end with her running after him was funny.
Big....acting....comeback? when was she an actor? On NCIS? Crossroads? Disney channel? Chaotic? Zoey 101? chester cheetah, her favorite guy, has a better resume.
She wasn't horrible... I even liked this episode better than last weeks(that has absolutely nothing to do with her though).
Quite honestly, I feel really bad for her. I just hope this is a step in the right direction and she is able to get back on her feet.
I thought it was a cute part for Britney - Oh and the 2 minute date was the best part of the show, that was so cute, I loved it.
she wasn't bad, I also love the 2-minute date. that was really sweet
Oops. I forgot to watch it!
i thought britney was the weakest link in an otherwise fabulous episode. her acting felt a little stilted at times. but it wasn't really a distraction b/c the rest of the episode was so fantastic. yay to great ratings!! cbs better renew!!
I though the whole thing about her character with Ted funny...hahaha I liked!!!
she did try little too hard, still she was funny.
I really hope this is the start of some positive changes for Miss Spears, so far so good, but the road is long!
she did seem to be trying really hard and won't get an emmy but she pulled off the timing and was cute. the episode all in all was great.
i guess i was part of the additional .9 million viewers or whatever that tuned in. i like the show - and i've never seen it before. britney was def a good lure to get new viewers.
Buzz, i think you mean season 4! we're on a shortened season 3 right now.
Britney was neither here nor there for me, but if it gets the show the ratings it needs to survive, I'm all for it! not to mention that I think Sarah Chalke is the one and only actress I would be completely okay with being the mother. she was comfortable and adorable, and I wasn't even distracted by the fact that she's also Elliot, even after seven seasons of Scrubs. perfect fit.
Her lines didn't make me laugh out loud except for the last scene where she says that all her friends told her to give up on Ted and she chases her down the street. I loved Sarah Chalke's character. I thought Britney did pretty well and she looked good! This was a monumental step in the right direction.
I thought she did great...she was funny and goofy, like her character was supposed to be. Good for her.
I don't think she did a terrible job, but I think she was more of a distraction. I would have preferred some unknown actress as Abby. And the two minute date was definitely the best part.
She was okay, but i think I could have acted better than her. However, she seems much better and was really sweet as Abby.
I thought that the 2 minute date thing was a lowpoint actually... I kinda feel like if she wanted to take an hour for lunch, she could take an hour for lunch. But it was a cute idea and clearly you ladies liked it.
I think Brit added cuteness to it and that scene when
she wont hang up the phone, I was laughing hard!
She was okay. I thought Sarah Chalke, who had a bigger role, did a great job, so it's kind of sad that Brit gets all the publicity.
i saw sarah chalke in a hanes commercial the other day and now she's on how i met your mother? Go her!! i love scrubs so hopefully she wont be seen as elliot the rest of her career. but Britney on the other hand will always be seen as the irresponsible careless mother she has proved herself to be, good to see the how i met your mother stylist gave her better hair extensions thought :\
I love Sarah Chalke, she is hilarious and sweet and likable, and I think I would like her if this is recurring more than I would have like Silverstone... I also caught the St. Pattys Day reference, and hope that she is the mom, I like her, and my husband laughed that the whole show could be a sham, that it isn't his kids, just telling a story about how Ted met these kids mother. HOPEFULLY it isn't a mockery, I can't remember him saying anything but kids, but I hope he's referred to himself as dad!
I really liked it. It was a great bit role that added to the whole episode.
Keeping my fingers crossed for Britney...
I was worried I'd be embarrassed for her, but I thought she looked cute and did a good job. I wouldn't want her on there permanently.
I agree with the above commenters that Britney's acting was way too forced. I'd never tuned in to this show before, and I've got to admit I was pretty disappointed by the writing and acting as a whole. But then I generally can't stand laugh-track sitcoms...
I love the way she said "You're like a knight." and "Funny, smart and great!" Sure the rest might have left a bit to be desired but it's no worse than suffeing through Jennifer Lopez's Maid in Manhattan.

wish there was an edit post button.
She wasn't bad, i just wish they did something about that HAIR! Loved the two minute date though, Sarah Chalke looked adorable! I hope she comes back.
At this point, I too feel sorry for her. Her timing was good and she was adorable. I think she could use some more positive feedbacks in her sad life. It seems where ever you go (via the media) there is all negative items about her. Good luck Britney!!!
why do sitcoms keep on employing stupid guest stars who caannot act just to get ratings? this is why I don't watch tv...

Yay! She did great! See how good she can look when she wears proper fitting clothing? She looks totally normal!
i enjoyed her appearance on the show
The role was perfect for her, that's all I can say. And Ted's 2-minute date was completely adorable! I love this show.
She was so cute and funny!
I love this show, and I thought both guest stars did a nice job this week! Sarah Chalke is clearly the more experienced actor and was fantastic in her role (I wish she was the mother!), but Britney was just fine in her role as a bubbly and ditzy person - it was good all around. (And, the two-minute date was definitely my favorite part - how cute!)
I thought Britney was so cute... but I'm glad the whole episode wasn't about her. The end part where she's talking to Barney got the biggest laugh from me.
She definitely seemed normal, completely different from the Britney we've been hearing and seeing lately, the Britney we can't help but to feel sorry for. I am glad this gig worked out for her, it wasn't some breakthrough super-talented actress, but it definitely promoted the show and allowed Britney to engage in something productive.
i thought she was great, glad they didnt focus too much on her tho. the main thing is that im so glad she brought in more viewers to this awesome show!
Eh. Yeah, her acting wasn't great, you could see her gesticulating and exaggerating faces, but it never really got to her eyes or looked real. I loved the two-minute date too, though. That was awesome.
