The nominees for the 79th Annual Academy Awards are finally coming out on Tuesday, and it seems no other year in recent Oscar memory has had so much buzz building before the big night. While some categories — namely Best Actress, aka Helen Mirren — seem mostly locked up, there are plenty of places where the Oscar voters might really surprise us in 2007. Here's who I think — and hope — will get nods in the major categories.

I definitely hope to see many nods for The Departed, Pan's Labryinth, Blood Diamond, and Meryl and Emily for The Devil Wears Prada. Greengrass should get a nomination for United 93, but Scorcese deserves the win this year.
I still need to see many of the films that are up expected to be up for big awards this year, such as Little Children, Babel, Notes on a Scandal, The Queen and The Last King of Scotland. I guess I need to hurry up and see these before the awards are announced!
1Thanks for these predictions, Buzz. Last King of Scotland and Little Children are on list of movies to see this weekend. Hope Little Miss Sunshine makes the Best Movie list. Looking forward to tomorrow's announcements.
2ryan gosling so deserves a nod! he's amazing in half nelson, and maybe it will get people to think of him for more than the notebook.
3Ryan Gosling is fantastic.
It might be too late for this one (although it ended up on critic's 2006 Best list) but I'd love to see a nod for 13 Tzameti for best foreign film. So intense.
