This is it, folks! The last new episode of Lost until April 24. It gave us plenty to chew on and yet more crazy-making timeline twists. But is it enough to hold us over until Lost returns?

Can you tell how much I'm loving that we've gotten so much Desmond time this season (see image)? He didn't even have that many lines this week, but I just had to use this picture. Sigh.
Darn near everything there is to say is a spoiler, so to discuss this week's last episode for a while, read more.
- This whole time when everyone's wondered where Michael went to and what he was doing, he was back in the U.S.! He was just living his life, Walt was fine and everything. Crazy.
- So, Ben gets Michael off the island and back to New York, so Michael is not part of the Oceanic Six. Once I learned that, I had this hope that Sayid would be in the same situation (not in the Oceanic Six) and we'd still have another member of the Six to figure out. No such luck. And according to the final preview thingy at the end there, they said that we now know all the members of the Oceanic Six — and they flashed an image of Aaron. I guess he does count.
- What's super cool about this episode is that it sets up the possibility for a number of people to get off the island, courtesy of Ben, as long as they work for him. This — and the flash-forward device they've started using — provides more options when creating storylines, rather than just being stuck on the island and seeing peoples' flashbacks. I like it.
- For whatever reason, I totally thought Claire would be the one to die this week. I never suspected Rousseau, but then again, I often forget about her entirely. It's a shame she died, I really liked her.
- Poor, tortured Michael. I feel for the guy, he's so miserable and haunted and he can't do anything about it.
- That Miles has some sassy lines this week! He's fast becoming another character I love to hate.
- There is something so fishy about the whole thing with Ben sending Rousseau, Alex and Karl into the forest. He gives Rousseau such a meaningful stare when he says, "Your mother will protect you," and he'd been glaring at Karl just before he gave them the map. I almost think that he arranged this somehow in order to get rid of Karl because Alex is "his." In the jungle when Rousseau is telling Alex to take her hand and that she loves her, her eyes are full of tears, like she knows what's coming. The whole thing is sad and eerie.
- It's heartbreaking to see Michael pawn the watch Jin eventually gave him in order to buy a gun. A gun that doesn't even succeed in killing him.
- So, Tom's gay. And he can just "come and go" between the island and the mainland as he pleases. This newfound info makes me want to go back and watch all of Tom's scenes again.
- I'm glad they explained where they came up with all those bodies for the fake Flight 815 wreckage, but Tom talking about all that — the cemetery in Thailand, etc. — made me queasy. It's so morbid.
- That bomb trick is cruel. "Not yet." I would have laughed if I weren't so exasperated.
- "There are people on your boat who are innocent. . . I will not kill innocent people." Really, Ben? Because I'm pretty sure you will.
- Again with the "good guys" label: "Then consider yourself one of the good guys."
- Sayid tells the captain that "Kevin Johnson" is not who he says he is. I kind of expected the captain to just be like, "Yeah, I know."
What did you think about this episode? Do we have enough to discuss until April 24?

I was so convinced that Aaron was NOT one of the Oceanic 6 because he was not on the plane's manifest. Oh well.
Since Aaron is one of the six and Jin is not, it seems to met that Jin clearly did not die off-island, so either he died trying to help Sun get off the island or he is still on the island.
I think Ben was very obviously leading Rousseau and Carl to their deaths... the writers don't waste any movements and they clearly focused on Ben looking at how Carl was touching Alex and also very meaningfully said "your mother will protect you". That coupled with Rousseau's tears makes it seem like she knew what she was getting into. What happens to Alex now?
Good point about possibility of other people leaving the island courtesy of Ben, but then again Ben is hell bent on people who are not in his crew of Others NOT leaving the island. I was wondering if he has a way to easily get on / off island now that the submarine is gone but obviously with Tom going to see Michael, that is not an issue.
The one issue/ area that confuses me the most... what came first, Hurley being in the psych hospital and cleaned up Jack coming to see him, or cleaned up Hurley going to see Sun with baby? And, what came first... crazy sad Jack who we saw at end of season three, or cleaned up Jack who went to see Hurley at psych hospital and went to Kate's trial?
Time line wise: When we see cleaned up, sane Hurley and Sun at Jin's "grave", it is about 8 months after the rescue, given that she had just given birth. When we see Kate and cleaned up Jack at trial, Aaron is about 2-3 years old by my estimation, showing that they had been off island for 2-3 years at that point.
1I think we can assume that the season 3 finale is the furthest into the future of all of the flashforwards. Jack mentions in the Hurley flashforward that he's thinking of growing a beard (which he has in the season 3 finale). At Kate's trial, he is starting to grow the beard. I would say the order of the flashforwards from earliest to latest are: Sun's, Hurley's, Kate's, Jack's. The only one i can't places is Sayid's.
2I agree with thinking that Ben had something to do with Karl and Rousseau being shot. But I don't know who it could be. We could say it's the others, but I feel like they might question killing Karl. Maybe not though, he did desert them. And thinking that it's the freight people, how did they know where they would be? They weren't at the Temple yet, I'm assuming they were decently far if they were taking a break. Seems almost too perfect that they decided to stop there and are ambushed. Unless they were followed. All the way from camp. Hmmm.
3I read this about this episode "according to executive producer Damon Lindelof:
''Yes, you'll find out a lot about Michael. But you'll ALSO learn why bearded Jack was unable to jump. AND where the Others are holed up. AND, according to those silly promos, apparently someone dies, too.'"
So how did this episode pertain to Jack? Maybe I missed something.
Oh and it's kind of a bummer that Sayid put Michael on the spot, bringing him to the captain. I understand why he hates him, but I feel like that was a petty rash decision for someone as calculating as Sayid.
PS. I love Desmond and am SO glad he's not dead! yay!
Here's a link to a post island timeline that might help you guys
4http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Timeline:Post-Island
Renee3 - i think that the reason Jack couldn't jump is the same reason Michael could not kill himself. I don't remember what Tom said exactly...perhaps somthing alone the lines of "the island wouldn't let him" ?
5Renees3! I was just about to post how I'm happy desmond isn't dead too!!! HE's best!
6I honestly don't know if i think Rousseau is dead. I think carl definitely is, but im not so sure about Rousseau, she's survived on this island a long time plus the island's mysterious healing powers. On a show like this i never believe anyone is dead until they are actually buried. So we'll so hopefully she isn't dead i liked Rouseeau a lot.
Also i read on another message board that when michael woke up in the hospital and saw libby the medical equipment in the room looked dated, then when he woke up from that and the unfamiliar nurse came in the room, the hospital equipment was much more new looking. we know from past episodes that michael was in an accident, so maybe this was a flash back to when he was hospitalized from the accident and libby really was his nurse. she said that she had gone to med school before becoming a psychiatrist. very interesting if you ask me!
7CJaneTyp,you bring up the point about it is not an issue for Tom getting on/off island, but again you forget the timeline. you don't know exaclty how long it was before Tom went to see Michael (was the submarine blown up before or after?)
I didn't really like this episode that much. I never liked the Michael character, I think he is weak and has an obnoxious voice. Plus he killed Anna Lucia who is super hot.
Anyways, I thought this season started off so well, but i am not sure if I like were it is going. I think they are drifting away AGAIN from the mysticism of the island (Walt/Black Stuff/Magnetic Fields/Weird Guy in Cabin who is the actual leader of the others/etc etc)
Not sure what the actual war is about they keep referencing this episode and previews for April 24 episode. It seems too simplistic to be like, yeah theirs this guy widmore, he wants the island to himself, and the people on the boat are coming to take it.... boooooring... that can't be all there is to it, I hope not.
Anyways, kudos to the writer(s) who wrote the Desmond storyline... Boo to the writer(s) who included the widmore crap...
I'll continue to watch (especially if they keep having flashbacks to that parachute girl, whats her name?)...
Cheers,
8J
tess - i put together the same thing - when tom tells michael the island won't let him kill himself, i thought of jack trying to kill himself on the bridge, but was stopped. and even maybe hurly too, when he was driving like a crazy person and got out of the car w/ no injuries....
9I can NOT wait until April 24th...but I guess I don't have much choice. It's going to be a bit odd having Lost on after Grey's...and I'm not really feeling the 10 pm time slot
...whatevs...I'll be there because I'm not square
As for the episode, poor Michael and Walt. When the series first began I was really rooting for this father/son duo to not only get to know each other better, but to make it off the island safe and sound, I'm guessing that isn't going to happen...as the island will inevitably allow Michael to regain peace (ie die) when he's served he's done with serving his penance.
I was truly upset at the loss of Rousseau, but perhaps she isn't dead...I guess I've got a month to find out.
It was great seeing Libby the specter...such an intriguing character gone too soon. I, too, am loving Miles...he his hilarious...but I missed seeing Faraday and all his kookiness
I thinks that about all I can give for my own round up!!!
PS: GREAT Desmond pic there, Buzz...now we just needed a little Sayid!!!
10Buzz - correct if I'm wrong, but Tom said that Whidmore was responsible for the fake landing and the burial ground...not Ben???
11Oh I get it haha, sometimes I'm slow to catch on. None of them can kill themselves. Tom made it sound like Michael couldnt kill himself because he still had things to do, so I wonder if it's the same for Jack. Unfinished Island Work!
12Also, keep in mind that Michael's flashback with Tom was definitely done well in advance, as we know Tom is now dead.
13anyone notice the two one second commercial blips for THE MOLE? I had to look it up to make sure it wasn't part of the show. Turns out ABC is bringing THAT show back this summer. BOO for misleading me!
I love that Tom...likes to indulge when off island. Totally puts a different spin on his character.
I never hate an episode. I just know it's all info we need somewhere along the lines. This one was good, not super fantastic. I'm more curious now than ever about time lines, alliances, and when are we going to find out about that foot?!
14Very true, kiddylnd...there's always information to be had from even the most least liked Lost episode!!!
15MicrochipJoel, good point about time line. The sub was blown up a few weeks ago and we don't know when exactly Tom and Michael met off island or how long Michael has been on that freighter. However, Ben clearly has a way to get on and off the island since he got off to work with Sayid in the future.
16CJaneTyp - Michael's mom said that they had been gone for two months (unexplictably) and it was that night that Tom greeted Michael in the alley. So I think we need to keep that in mind in terms of the timeline.
Also, did anyone else catch Alex and Karl saying something about not telling anyone something? Is Alex pregnant???
17I didn't get to finish my statement:
We know Tom dies about a day or two after Naomi parachutes to the island...when Michael was already on the boat and at sea.
18mandajean — You're right, temporary brain fart over here. I made the change. Thanks!
tiabia — I think I'll add a Sayid picture, too, because really, why not?
19PRSugar — I thought the same thing about Alex being pregnant! But my thought came from the scene just before Ben gives them the map and tells them to go to the temple: Alex is cooing over Aaron and she keeps her hand on her own belly as she walks away. Could mean absolutely nothing. Or it could mean something.
20It was a good one!! It's like a completely different show now.. it's weird, but I'm digging it.
Most of the things that occurred in this episode further the theory I believe.. I can't wait until April 24th!!!!!!!!!!
21One more quick thing - the whole Tom is gay storyline. Does anyone remember when he gave Kate a dress and told her to change - he told her not to worry, she wasn't his type, so I guess we should have suspected. But, at the same time, wasn't Tom married to the woman that was killed when Sawyer, Kate, & Jack were captured and Sayid, Sun, and Jin were trying to rescue them?
22PRSugar,
We were initially supposed to believe that Tom and the blonde woman on the boat were Gerald and Karen DeGroot, but remember it was revealed that Tom had on a "costume" of sorts, hence, NOT Gerald DeGroot.
23wait, how did we find out that Tom is gay ???
24His "indulgence" with Arturo!!!
25THANKS, BUZZ!!!
26lol buzz, thanks for the sayid pic!
27Naomi.... RIGHT!, that was here name, yeah she's bangin'! (wait, can I say that on here?) Anyways, that was the only saving grace to this episode... Who cares if Tom's gay, who cares about Michael, none of this really seems to make a difference to what we already knew... granted they really put emphasis on the Island not letting people kill themselves... but its just kind of annoying because its like great, so the island has powers on the mainland too WT- Heck? Ok, Lost guys, you are really pushing my tolerance of suspended disbelief.
J
28i'm irritated that we have to wait until april 24th! grrr
so last night was good but not as good as the other episodes this season. i did like how they answered some questions finally! i don't like michael's character either. i think he is weak. i read on E! that Walt's grandmother was also in the episode where Miles was helping her to speak to a dead grandson. And the picture of the kid was Walt...but I haven't researched that at all. It makes me question the timing of his flashback though.
29I caught how affectionate Karl and Alex were, but didn't give it a second thought. Now, I remember how pissed Ben looked and read up the theories on LostPedia. Alex has almost GOT to be pregnant.
Even if Tom was portrayed at some point as being married, that means nothing really. I know many couples who are married and one or the other realized they were gay later. Also, this is LOST...pretty much anything can be a cover for anything. So he could be straight and playing Arturo, he could be gay and Arturo could be playing Tom for some gain - perhaps hired by Widmore? It could really be anything.
30I too don't think Rousseau is dead, if only because at Comic-con Cuse and Lindelof promised a flashback episode with her to come either this season or next
I think Karl is definitely a goner which is a shame because I always wanted to know more
about that Clockwork Orange-like scene from last season and what, if any, effect it had on him.
The Michael stuff was interesting, but it left me, as most Lost episodes succeed in doing, wanting to know more! Mostly I'd love to see how he got from the island to NY, rather than from NY to the freighter.
I think tess2530 is spot on with the order of the flash forwards: Sun, Hurley, Kate, Jack...with Sayid being a bit of a wild card as to where his flash forward fits in.
31So I rewatched some of it and I thought of something.
32Could the shooter (at alex's group) possibly be Keamy? At first I wasn't sure if was Freight people, but then I saw again that they showed that whole part where Keamy and his friends are just shooting off the ship. Seems like maybe they're telling us something?
great episode, it was sad how alex's mom died. People should know better than to trust Ben. Ben is at place where he wants to be. I feel everything is in his plans. He prob. has like 20 back up plans for everything that happens.
33@ Greentea, in season 2, when Kate was changing into the dress Ben made her put on, Tom told her she wasnt his type...I remembered that last night when I saw him kiss Arturo...
Also, Im wondering where Karl came from. I think he said in season 3 that he was born on the island??? (not sure about that)...but, if so, who r his parents???
34I think the producers said that ONE person was going to die in last night's episode, so my money is on Rousseau still being alive!
35My boyfriend caught the possible Alex pregnancy thing as well. That would open a very interesting can of worms... and would make total sense considering that pregnancy is a major theme.
36I love pregnancy. - J
37Yeah I have a feeling that Alex is pregnant and Danielle is (hopefully) not dead.
I also was worried that Claire was gonna die because of all of the internet rumors and they gave her a little screentime tonight. It also seemed like everyone was mentioning Claire and the baby a little more than usual.
38Man the little murder spree at the end there seemed like a weak attempt for the writers to go "aHA! a brilliant surprise to keep everyone in suspense til april!" cuz yeah, although it was surprising, and may (if we're very, very lucky) be an important turning point in the plot later on (saaaay if dead mom starts haunting ben via creepy island powers and makes him kill himself), i found it overall a somewhat disappointing and even boring end prior to the hiatus. i mean, i know the writers said this season was going to be "darker and bloodier", but its better when its a little more poignant to make us actually care what happens. for example, i would've thought the episode where desmond phoned penny would have been a much better way to end the first batch of episodes this season (since it is kind of the Best Episode Of Anything Ever), instead of killing off two minor characters.
I dunno, just my opinion.
39halfbakedjake- While I agree that the Des/Penny episode was A-MAZING and would have been a better way to end things before a hiatus, bear in mind that this is a forced hiatus. This episode was never meant to be anything but number 8 of 16 this season and now because of the writer's strike is getting more scrutiny that if it had aired as planned. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
40It would be great if Rousseau wasn't dead. I've been hoping for a Rousseau flashback since season 1.
41I swear it looked like Alex was wearing some kind of earpiece/microphone on her right ear, & Karl had a flesh colored in-ear thing too.
Am I seeing things, or did anyone else notice this?
42What was that EAR PIECE??? THANK GOD I'M NOT A CRAZY PERSON.
43I noticed that thing dangling from her ear, too! I hope we get to find out what that's all about.
44So sad that it's not going to be on for over a month.
45I noticed an ear piece, too! What was that about? I thought maybe I'd mistaken something that was an earring or something. I only caught sight of it on Alex, but I haven't watched the episode since last night.
46I'm really glad others caught that as well. I honestly thought I was seeing things.
My thoughts about the show:
I really liked this episode. I'm glad Michael is back, he's one of the origional crew. He also deserved his own epi considering he wasn't on last season. I am sick of them using poor Michael as some type of scape goat, geez they want somebody killed call Michael, why not the Iraqi torturer?
What is most interesting, but LOST makes my head hurt too much to figure it out, is the revelation that Michael and Walt have been home all this time and hiding who they are for two months, I just can't put my brain through figuring out the time in NY vs. the island. I guess I never considered how they would explain being the only ones to make it back to America! Also seems like Walt is also tortured and the relationship very strained with his dad.
I wonder if we are going to see Walt do more of his special abilities seeing as he was able to have Locke see him on the island all the way from NY. His abilities has always been something I hoped the writers would explain a bit more.
It was sad to see Michael give up Jin's watch they hated each other at first but then became like best friends. I love how neither understood what the other was saying but knew exactly what each other meant, their relationship was cute.
I totally remember Mr. Friendly telling Kate she wasn't his type so I always figured he was gay but it was still funny hearing him say how he liked to indulge!
I feel so bad for Rousseau, I noticed that for once she finally had a nice outfit on and wasn't dressed like Rambo then they went and killed her. Seems like the island has once again taken someone after they found their purpose and peace...her daughter. I'm glad we finally got a touching scene btwn mother and daughter she's been looking for her for 16yrs for goodness sakes.
I noticed the earpiece also...don't know what that was about!
DAMN, what the hell happens to everybody else if those are the only six to make it!?
47Absolutely can't wait til the 24th...
I find it the whole Widmore plotline a bit too straightforward. Why wouldn't he cover his tracks better...I mean, he bought everything under the company's name? And everyone on the freighter knows he was the one who sent it, and don't seem to mind telling everyone else. This leads me to believe maybe it really is Ben who planted the plane with the dead bodies, and that there some greater force behind this whole freighter thing?
Maybe it turns out it's Michael's body in the coffin which Jack visits...the obit read that the deceased was in NY and survived by a son. Also, to Leilanic, I'm pretty sure it wasn't Walt's grandmother in an earlier episode nor was it a picture of Walt, could be wrong though.
Can't wait until the 24th!
48PRSugar...about the "don't tell anyone" comment between Karl and Alex: If I recall correctly that came right after an exchange where Alex said that Ben cared about her and wanted her safe, and Karl said that he did too, and then someone said it was one thing that Ben and Karl had in common. I think the implication there was, somewhat jokingly, that Karl didn't want to tell anyone he had something in common with Ben.
That said, Alex's body language and her unusually accented belly do seem suspicious. It wouldn't surprise me if she were preggers too...oh, what a tangled web. And Rousseau can't be dead! She's way too tough for that...right?
49thanks!
yes I do remember when Tom told KAte that she wasn't 'his type', but I totally missed his kiss with Aruto, I'm gonna go rewatch in case I missed something else, including those earpieces you're talking about
As lkandy, I was wondering about Karl's origin, where does he come from ???
