Whitney Houston divorced Bobby Brown and has been parading around town with music mogul Clive Davis the last couple of months, so I've wondered if something like a comeback was a-brewin'. Whitney was once a beloved diva with a phenomenal voice, but then drugs and other problems began to sink her career.
Yet, now there's news of an album in the works, on track for a holiday-time release. Collaborating artists include will.i.am, Sean Garrett and Akon, who sounds all kinds of confident in her ability to generate hits again:
"The voice is there; I don't think anyone could ever take that from her. As long as we apply that voice to hit records, she'll be right back where she left off."
She's been out of it for so long, I wonder if she's still relevant. On the one hand, her older hits are still loved by a younger generation even though they've only known her to be a tragic figure. What do you think? Can Whitney Houston can top the charts again?

It's interesting how Bobby gets blamed for it. The music industry is full of drunks and drug addicts, and Whitney grew up around that sort of behavior. He may have been a partial catalyst, but she's a grown-ass woman, who saw it all her life and knew better, and did it anyway.
I hope she has gotten it together enough to pull her career out of the crapper, but there's no way to know until she tries. Good luck to her.
1No. Cos she's tried before and failed. She's old. She should focus on being a mom. She has kids right?
2my mom and i were just talking last night about how AI contestants shouldn't even try to sing Whitney's songs because noone can pull them off but her, and my mom goes "Whitney can't even pull off Whitney songs anymore." Sorry, but i think it's just too late. hopefully she'll prove me wrong but i kinda doubt it.
3I have faith in her!!!
4it depends on her voice to begin with- i haven't heard her sing in years so i have no idea if she can still pull it off (like amers said above) it also depends how they market her- she's not going to be a hit in the pop market- lets face it- that is over. now a celion dion type vegas show deal, or some sort of tour like that- she could be successful.. IF the voice is still there
5When she was on that reality show with Bobby, I remember a couple times when she would just break out into song impromptu. She sounded HORRIBLE. Can drugs do that to a voice? If she's still got her voice, she might have a chance... I didn't think Mariah Carey would make the sort of comeback that she did either. Whitney's been out a while, but at least she went out on a (relatively) high note. No pun intended.
6I think she can do it. I loved her when I was a kid.
7If drugs haven't ruined her voice she has a chance. I'm just proud of her for getting her life together. While true, not all the blame can be put on Bobby, it's pretty obvious he was a horrible influence on her. Now that he's gone, her life has only gotten better. While his goes down the tube. It's ok I still love It's My Perogitive lol
8Whitney is one of the original DIVas she will make a comebacck, if Amy Winehouse can do it while cracked up , Whitney can do it sober.
9Yes. I have always loved Whitney Houston. Even if her voice isn't up to par as it used to be, there is no doubt in my mind that she wouldn't sound great.
I'm looking forward to her album.
My best friend and I were talking the other night about how she could just make a comeback tour and sing all of her older hits, and it would probably sell out; much like Barbra Streisand, Tina Turner, and Genesis have done in recent years.
Good luck Whitney!
10the question about her 'relevance' is valid - since her style of music really isn't in right now - but if you consider how janet jackson is able to reinvent herself all the time - i'd assume that whitney could too.
11i was listening to a recording of her singing an aretha franklin song and i thought what a beautifully perfect voice. it would be a huge shame if she didn't try to come back. relevant or not, the great ones always seem to come back into style because people get sentimental about what they grew up with. i've never been a huge fan but i would love to hear that voice belt it out again
12We all love a comeback... and Whitney can still blow man! I'm excited to see what happens!
13i hope her pipes are still good and she can belt it like she used to....
14her voice is amazing but she just can't act crazy like the past few years.
15I really hope so. She has so much talent and I love an underdog.
16Though I've never been a fan of her music, even I can't deny that she has one of the most incredible singing voices I've ever heard.
For her sake, I hope her album does well. She deserves for her beautiful voice to be heard.
17There is nothing people love more than a reformed sinner. If she has any voice left, she can come back.
18oh, i'm sure people will go out and buy her music - but will it be any good? who knows. if she really wants to turn things around and is passionate about making music, i hope it works out for her.
19No. It won't be a comeback in the traditional sense because of the state of the music industry today. She'll never sell a gillion records. No one can. Those days are over. But she can still be successful, but it'll have to be defined differently.
20I've been waiting for her to make a comeback- who doesn't love old school whitney?
21She needs to do it for herself and the fans!
22I completely agree with the comments... that Whitney has probably... sadly forever... screw up her voice with a decade of smoking crack. Any kind of smoking will do it... smoking crack is 10 times worse.
I have seen two different clips of her singing at benefits (done overseas) and she simply does not have the range she had in 1990. Not even close.
But with luck, and staying off the pipe, she can sing within reason of her old range.
Oh and the comment about American Idol & no one can sing a "Whitney song" like Whitney... that is so true. That even Whitney can't do it any longer.
But I still love her old albums... and hope that she can get her act together.
23Every since I heard Whitney live at Red Rocks I knew she was as incredible as they come. I will always be a Whitney fan through thick and thinner. I am thrilled with this comeback for her sake. She will re-establish her legacy as one of the great, great vocalists of all time. Plus one who
24faced her demons and did not give up on life. God bless her!!!
I hope it happens been waiting for some time now ? Just makes me think her voice must need some work if she still has one ?
