Thursday's American Idol elimination was a surprisingly emotional one. The guys' side lost someone whom I'd assumed would be around a whole lot longer, but the real drama came with the ladies. Talent-wise, I don't think either of the two should have gone home — even though I figured one of them would. These early rounds can be such a roller coaster. Have you learned your lesson, America? To see who got kicked off, just read more.

The big surprise on the guys' side was the elimination of Robbie "not my real hair" Carrico. Yeah, he was the fakest of fake rockers — and Idol has seen its share of those — but I still thought he'd make it to the Top 12. Jason Yeager also said farewell, though that elimination made more sense to me.
As for the girls: Gah! Alexandrea hadn't had a great week, but she has a ton of talent and such a likable personality. I did think she'd be going home, but that didn't mean I wanted it to be true! As for voters choosing Kady over Alaina, I'm pretty shocked. Alaina made a splash in the first week; sure, she wasn't as memorable this week, but there were plenty of worse performances. Everyone looked devastated when Seacrest read her name, even Kady. Alaina's so young, and she couldn't help but lose it. I'm glad the rest of the group convinced her to take her sing-out.
Some other thoughts:
- Wow, David Archuleta really broke down when Alexandrea was booted. Then Danny lost it over Alaina's ouster. We sure do have some criers among the young'ns this year.
- Also, that dark-haired relative of Alaina's looked pissed. She's coming for you, America!
- Brad Pitt is going to be a part of Idol Gives Back this year — which seemed to wipe the tears right off Kady's face. Also, Daughtry, Miley Cyrus, Reese Witherspoon, Snoop Dogg, and Carrie Underwood.
- How terrified did all the contestants look clumped in that big group at the beginning when Seacrest did his intro? I thought a couple of them might pass out.
- Simon's new hand gesture: what?
- Most egregious misrepresentation of a judge's comments: Randy calling Alexandrea one of his favorite performers in the top 20 — but not including the part where he said it wasn't such a great song for her.
- Favorite reaction shot: David Hernandez totally grooving during Jason's singout.
What did you think? How did you do at predicting the guys and the girls who went home? And now who are you betting on for the Top 12?

I'm pretty shocked that Kady didn't get the boot.
1I was SHOCKED. The only one I was right about was Jason Y. I thought for sure Luke, Kady and Amanda would have gotten the boot last night.
Shows how much I know!
2I wasn't that shocked by the results. I was very bored by alexandra!
3When it came down to Alexandrea and the girl with the horrible hair from the night before (Amanda?) I really thought Alexandrea was safe.
4I was shocked, Alexandrea was one of my favs...I can't believe Kady stayed over her!
5I really thought Robbie would make it a little longer
6Here's the thing about "Alex""Andrea" aka A. Lush: she's a WONDERFUL performer, but not a great singer. The girl is rough. She needs to get some real vocal training to control all that talent she's got, and then come back in 2 years and rock the Idol house. As for Alaina, she was fantastic the first week, but definitely not good this week. Last week, she made me forget that she's so young, and this week, she reminded me that she is young and therefore not ready for the big time. Idol really has to stop kicking off people who sing songs about broken hearts, though. When she had to do her singout of "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and sing "I guess mine is not the first heart broken," I had a flashback to Gina Glockson's teary goodbye last season while singing "Smile, as though your heart is breaking." So sad, because you can tell in their voices that Alaina and Gina's hearts totally WERE breaking while singing themselves goodbye.
7don't care about the guys.but i'm disappointed and shocked these two girls have to go!
8I'm pretty happy with this weeks results.
9I really thought that Kady and Amanda should have gone. I don't think there was a right note at all between either of those two performances. They were uncomfortable and embarrassing!
10I was sooo surprised that Alaina left over Kady....
11I think that Kady is gonna get control of what she is doing and blow the house, hopefully so I was okay with Alaina leaving. I actually voted for Alex and so I was really sad to see her go... I liked her Chicago song! Muffaletta is so adorable and my favorite by far. The guys who left I was not surprised by.
12I guessed 3 out of 4...so no big surprises for me. Alaina was OK (she was the only one I didn't have pegged to get booted)...she sure should have been around longer than Amanda. That one's a bit of a train wreck.
13i like amanda, i think she's cool, but i haven't been impressed at all with her last two performances. i really thought it was going to be her and kady ... i REALLYREALLY dislike Kristy Cook (can't pinpoint exactly why, but i just do not like her) and wish she'd get going soon ... and I knew Jason would go (i dont think his voice is that great - it's a tad irritating to hear) but i wanted Luke gone as well. And David Cook. He's kind of obnoxious, in my opinion.
14I'm soo ticked that Amanda got saved again for yet another week (damn votefortheworst.com) I don't think Alaina should've got the boot it should been Kady, she has a major attitude about her that makes her so unattractive in many many ways.
As for the guys, I agree with who got the boot.
They all definitely need to step it up to stick around for the top 10 since thats the first real prize on the show.
I can't wait for Idol gives back, last year was really awesome and this year is looking good as well.
Now i just gotta hope people quit trying to sabotage idol (its apparently not working, idol is still on tv) and not vote for the worst.
15I was so shocked when Alaina was sent home instead of Kady. I was so sure that Kady was going home
16Alaina had an amazing voice esp. for her age. The song choice was not right but she definitely shouldn't have gone home.
17fieryelectra, that was a sad moment, but it's too bad that in real life, Gina thinks she's some major star and deserves preferential treatment. I was hosting at a local restaurant when she came in with some friends, and let's just say there were plenty of other people I would have sat first if I could have.
18I think the best voice this year is Ramiele's, however American Idol's fans don't necessarily know how to judge the best singing and many times vote for looks and personality.
I was sad to see talented Alexandrea and Alaina go so soon, however none of them would be a finalist anyway, so... They are really young and hopefully they'll have time to get over this and be able to score a singing contract in the near future.
On the male side, my faves are Jason Castro and David Cook.
19I was not all that surprised about any of the people who went home. American Idol is not necessarily about finding the best singer; it's about finding someone who can sing well and also had "star potential." I think fans can judge who can sing well, but couple that with a person's personality, as they should. The goal of American Idol is to find/make a star, not to find the best singer.
And Rebekah, I totally agree with you about Kristy Lee Cook. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but something about her annoys me as well. She just seems really inauthentic, but I don't know why.
