Oh, the end is near. On last night's Project Runway the remaining designers got their challenge to create a 12-piece collection for fashion week, the budget to do so ($8,000), and five months to put it all together. Same old, same old. The twist this season was that only two designers had guaranteed spots at Bryant Park: Christian and Jillian. Rami and Chris didn't have the same luxury, though; they had to compete against each other one more time to see who would present at fashion week. This mini-competition consisted of each designer showing the judges his top three looks from the collection, with the strongest competitor "carrying on" to show on next week's episode. Alas, you'll have to read after the jump to see who prevailed.

Competition aside, the second to last ProjRun is always about the "Tim Gunn comes to your house and hates on your collection" motif. And Tim Gunn did not disappoint. He had mostly positive things to say to Jillian, but he definitely had constructive criticism, and some catty remarks, for the boys. He even cursed at Rami. Well as close to cursing as we'll probably ever hear Tim utter.
To find out more about the house visits and see which three designers are proceeding, read more.
- Christian: Tim's first stop was Christian's studio. And when I say studio, I mean studio. In fact, closet might be a better word for it. In all honesty Christian's work/live space is about as big as an average American's bathroom. Oh to be young, broke, and fabulous in New York City. As for Christian's collection, Tim was worried about it being "a lot of look." He recommended editing a little. He was especially worried about Christian's finale look which consisted of feather pants. Christian admitted that he agreed with what Tim had to say, but didn't know if he would change a lot. Ruh-roh.
- Jillian: Next stop was Jillian's apartment in New York. Luckily her space was a little bit bigger than Christian's, but then, she's a little bit older too. Jillian's collection built on the theme from the last challenge, the one inspired by art from the Met. Her main piece was a coat that emulated 15th century armor. The only negative thing Tim had to say was that the palette was a little gloomy. The funniest thing about Jillian's visit was her mom telling the story of going to a psychic and being told one of her three children would be famous; she apparently raised Jillian to believe she was the chosen one, though how she came to that conclusion wasn't exactly clear.
- Rami: Tim finally got to get on a plane when he traveled to LA to meet with Rami. Rami had a lot more space to work than the other designers, as he had his own professional studio — one that he didn't sleep in and that even had his name out front. Rami's collection seemed similar in theme to Jillian's, although he cited Joan of Arc specifically. He showed several pieces to Tim, who was concerned that the collection was a little "hammered and nailed." He thought the collection wasn't soft enough, especially when he picked up one piece and pronounced it one "heavy duty f-ing coat." Wow! Ultimately, Rami said Tim made some good points that he would take into account, but like Christian, he didn't know how much he would change.
- Chris: Last but certainly not least, Tim made his way to Chris's apartment in NY. The conversation focused on his collection — and oh, what a collection it was. Most of the pieces had large amounts of trim that consisted of, wait for it . . . human hair. Human hair! Someone call PETA! Or, you know, whatever PETA is for humans. Tim seemed a little grossed out by it all (he even said his gag reflex kicked in) and told Chris he really needed to edit. In fact, he told Chris he had been living in the monkey house in the zoo, a monkey house that smelled repulsive, but Chris could no longer smell it because he had been in there too long. Amazing. Although I suppose it's worth pointing out that people do put human hair in their hair all the time . . .
In the end, Rami and Chris were called for their showdown. Chris's collection was all black and focused on the glam-with-a-quirk human hair aspect. Rami's palette was a little dark, too, but wasn't the drapery that we're so used to seeing. Both designers had one look I adored: For Rami, it was the black-and-white strapless dress, and for Chris, it was the hair-trimmed tailored jacket and safety pin skirt. The judges found both collections to be rather gloomy and dramatic, but they were impressed with both designers' work. Alas, there could only be one to go on to fashion week. And that was Rami.
Did you think that Rami was the best choice? (The votes are really close so far!) From what you've seen of Jillian's collection, are you as impressed as Tim? And who do you think will win this season of Project Runway?

I thought Rami should go to Bryant Park. I found the Chris' hair thing a little gross. It was too much for me
1I'm going to miss Chris, he made such funky clothes
2i'm sad Chris isn't in the final three, but at least he still got to show at Bryant Park (as well as Sweet P) to avoid spoilers for the show! that's still a good opportunity, right?
3i loved, loved, loved rami's 'draped with a twist' dress. i wish we could have seen the other dresses under the jackets, but i guess they're saving that for fashion week. and even though i ♥ chris' personality, the hair thing really freaked me out. though the effect was cool...nope, still weirded out.
4Rami was definitely the right choice. Chris has been really inconsistent this season and I was really surprised that his final collection was so goth. I'm still gonna miss that laugh.
Did you notice that when Rami and Chris left the runway Christian greeted them with "'Sup Trannies"? Love it.
At the beginning of this season I called the final 3 to be Rami, Jillian, and Kevin. 2/3 is pretty good. Did anyone else make predictions for the final 3?
5I totally called the final three! I love Chris but his collection was wierd! I didn't like Rami's either though. I think Jillian's going to win!
6I don't get what freaked people out about the human hair. It's a strange medium, yes. But it wasn't like he scalped people - he used hair meant for hair extensions. Also, it achieved the look of fur without the cruelty factor.
I'm going to be sad about Chris being gone. I just wish that the judges had been consistent in what they want - ready-to-wear vs couture.
7I also correctly predicted the final three (I think since week 2)
8I totally agree wingedkiare!! What's so freaky about the human hair? Lindsay Lohan and Paris have human haired sewed/glued to their head as extensions -- whats the difference with putting it on a jacket? (Not that I would be caught dead in it!)
Still... I loved Chris and am said to see him go. Rami is ok, but you gotta love Chris' personality.
On a side note -- what the hell what up with that hat Jillian was wearing during the runway set up? ICK!
9to say chris is so so creative is an understatment. anyone living in SF think that he got his start at marlena's in hayes valley? every friday and saturday they have drag competitions, and the outfits are fabulously fiercely ferosh.
10Completely torn that Chris didn't make it, especially since he's from SF. He was true to himself all the way (couture with a little costume!). As for Rami... eh! I don't see his style in his collection. He's giving the judges what they want to see without being himself.
I like Christian's collection, too, but I think Jillian's collection ROCKED! LOVE IT!
And, londongirl, I'm with you... what was that thing on her head? I had to pause and observe many times. I thought it was a joke. It looked like there was a boot inside her beanie that she forgot to pull out. ????
11I loved Jillian's collection. The armor idea is so fresh and interesting. Her clothes just look so well made
12i love what they both did for their collections. i was impressed to see the quality of both their work.
i was particularly glad to see that rami truly can do more than just draping. in fact, he's quite talented.
chris's collection was freaking rad. his gothic-glamour look was right on the money. the safety pin skirt and human hair...yeah, the hair was a bit much but it's chris--he's a bit much; he's over the top. love him.
i'll miss him but based upon the pieces and not people i have to admit i liked what rami provided more.
can't wait to see what they bring to bryant park in full!
13i always like to see this episode because the designers have been pouring their heart and soul into their collections. i feel like 2 of them really took the Met challenge to heart when the did their final collection...but i guess you haveto get your inspiration from somewhere
14I always thought that the most talented of the bunch are Jillian,Christian and Rami. I am so happy they all made it to Bryant Park. I think Christian will win the whole thing because they appeared in Regis and Kelly (I think) and they asked them if they were happy with the decision of the winner and Christian said ''Yes,very happy'' or something like that. We'll see. Also Victoria Beckham being one of the judges, she likes over the top clothes...like Christian's.
15So I wasn't the only one who thought Jillians whatever that was was HELLA weird. Me no likey at all.
I was so sad to see Chris go.
16ugh, I missed it last night cause I was fighting with my stupid boyfriend. Thank GOD it comes on again in an hour.
17I was sure the judges were going to choose Rami, and it seemed like Chris was pretty sure as well. Once they get ideas into their heads, they don't want to change! Christian's stuff is nice, but all very "costumey" as well, but they never said a thing about that. Knowing they all really did get to show kind of took away the suspense; it seems like it would be great to show - getting judged might just be more pressure.
But, two dull episodes in a row... get to the good stuff! I watched five minutes of last week's reunion episode and deleted it from my DVR, and fast-forwarded thru a lot of last night's episode. Let's get to the clothes!
18Sure the hair was weird, but at least it was original. I just find Rami soooo boring.
19i'll miss chris
20I really thought Chris's looked more like a real collection. I didn't really see the connection between any of Rami's pieces. I did love that one dress of his, but the rest was just throwaway to me-- if those were really his strongest pieces, I don't really care about seeing the rest of it. Chris's work, though dark (and I admit the hair was kinda weird), was creative and interesting and made me really curious to see more of what he came up with. I thought the judges missed the mark on this one.
21Btw, does anyone know if we can see pictures of the rest of Chris's collection somewhere?
Like a few of you have mentioned...I'm kinda miffed about the PR judges being so wishy washy about what they want in a designer.
Rami's collection wasn't "cohesive" (that term the judges LOVE to use). It looked like three nice pieces, but not a true collection.
Chris' collection was definitely cohesive. He also stayed true to himself, and didn't change his vision to suit the judges.
I think Chris should've gone to the finals, his designs were so original and creative. Rami's designs just bore me and it bothers me that he's not staying true to his vision.
22Oh my goodness. It should've been Chris. His three looks just looked way more put together. Dark, I agree, but still. And I don't think the judges even gave a proper clear reason why they picked Rami.
I have a feeling Rami keeps pulling through because he's more confident, competitive and aggressive than some others. When you look purely at his clothes, I see very few that are truly stunning IMO. That blue coat for instance...fug. Because he makes more high-end gowns, people tend to think he's automatically more talented.
bye Chrissy
23the final three are all talented but i wish Jillian wins
24Rami is such an established designer already... guhhh. I want Christian to win it-- he is the hardest worker that the show has ever seen and i want him to be christened nyc's new fashion prince.
25Jillian- I really can't wait to see her line...her family seemed like the complete opposite of her!
26Christian- his space was insane, I can't give up my space by choice. we will see what his line will look like...not too excited though
Chris- should have gone through...it would have been something so completely different from everybody else. Very haute couture...News flash...people where human hair in there head all the time, it's not that gross
Rami- *side note* didn't his birth mother look a lot like Jillian!! I'm not holding my breath to see his line, i'm not that excited for some reason
Come on finale next week!!
Okay...did anyone notice that Rami's black gown looks a lot like Jennifer Garner's oscar gown? Without the weird side circles the judges complained about. The seem at least similar.
I'd be happy seeing either Christian or Jillian winning. Can't wait for next week! Oh, and Chris' friend's apartment was unreal. I'm not sure I could stay in that place for long without being overstimulated!
27i have been arguing with so many people about the human hair thing, but no one agrees with me. I was so not freaked out by it, my first thought was "well, you put it on your head, so whatever." It actually looked great!!! I loved it, I thought it was so creative, and while they were dramatic pieces, I would not be opposed to wearing human hair. I also thought, plenty of people wear fur, no one had to die for the human hair! PETA should be happy! See, Chris March is helping the Jo March's of the world (hmm, is he related to the fictional characters of Little Women?)! But no one agrees with me, they all think I am crazy.
28Rami is so boring, so predictable, so commercial...so safe. Chris is so much more creative, as the judges admit, and he would have been a much better choice to show at Fashion Week. Show being the operative word here! Chris knows how to put on a show, how to evoke a response from the audience. Runway shows are much more exciting when they are fantasy! Its too bad Rami was chosen over Chris...
29Punkingirl, xrockette and brandi... I completely agree with all of you. Christian and Jillian are both deserving and passionate. And wtf with the fuss about the human hair? Don't people use wigs, made of natural, real human hair? The way the judges were reacting was like Chris told them he had used eyeballs or something.
30And Rami is safe and boring. I don't believe he is creative or a true artist (at least not what I've seen in his PR clothes), just a very good designer of wearable clothes. Chris dares, Jillian dares, Christian dares.
