Tilda Swinton...the biggest and most pleasant surprise, I think. I picked her as a "Should win, but won't" during my round up of predictions, she was absolutely fantastic in Michael Clayton.

Also, I'd like to throw in The Golden Compass for visual effects. Transformers was expected to be a lock there.

I am not sure why No Country for Old Men won so many awards...the movie wasnt very good (Though Bardem play the psychopath perfectly). It was pretty much a crazy guy going around killing people and trying to find that bag of money, but WHY, maybe I missed it but I dont think you ever found out why he wanted that money. The only I couldve pulled from that movie--and this was even a stretch--it couldve been called No Country for Old Men because Tommy Lee Jones' character was tired of his job as sherrif and just couldnt take the violence anymore...so he quit. It certainly had a very odd ending.

Tilda Swinton's win surprised me most. Now I'm even more anxious to see Michael Clayton than I was before.

I didn't like No Country for old men. It was only worth watching for the villan but other than that I cannot understand how the hell it won all these awards.

The whole La Vie en Rose thing is odd to me. I live in a pretty big market but don't recall seeing it out here. I'm not saying Cotillard didn't deserve it, I'm just surprised at the acclaim the movie has gotten since I didn't realize it even existed until it got nominations.

Seeing the academy forgot to include Brad Renfro in their Remeberance sequence suprised me.

I was really happy that No Country got so much recognition. The Coen brothers make such unique, amazing films.

Tilda Swinton. Everyone was arguing about whether it would be Ruby Dee or Cate Blanchett. I'm kind of surprised that Cate didn't win at all, to be honest. I haven't seen the films, but Oscar loves her.

Tilda's win, definitely. While it was a great performance, I fully expected them to give it to Cate Blanchett.

Though Marion's win was a surprise. I'd read so many picks that had her as the dark horse (mostly because the movie was barely seen outside of Hollywood), that I was certain she wasn't going to get it.

I think Paul Dano definitely deserved to be nominated for best supporting actor - he was fantastic as the preacher in "There Will Be Blood." That being said, I'm happy with Bardem's win - he was great in "No Country for Old Men" and actually made the movie.

I much preferred "There Will Be Blood" to "No Country for Old Men." It should have won Best Picture.

None of these moments were surprising to me. I predicted almost all of the big category winners.

I really didn't expect Diablo Cody to win. I liked the movie; I just didn't see it as Oscar worthy.

I never gave her a chance...just goes to show. her sense of humor is fantastic...hope to see her in movie and at the Oscars again.

Tilda Swinton is my favorite actress and she certainly should have won an Oscar ages ago; I just didn't expect her to win for Michael Clayton.

Everyone thought Julie Christie would win and I did too. But I thought Marion deserved to win so I'm happy.

Marion deserved it ~!I love it when the underdog wins. In this age of empty celebrity and actresses being known more for the publicity hype than for actual real talent her win is so refreshing.

Tilda Swinton was on my wishlist but not on my predictions! Congrats to her! And doom to me, whose predicted Oscar ballot was pretty pathetically off the mark. Tilda would have made it worth my while if she had made some risque shoutouts to her live-in boyfriends. =) Speeches like that would improve viewership, guaranteed.

Everyone I predicted would win, won. So, no big surprises, really. With the exception of Ruby Dee. I thought she would finally be recognized with an Oscar for her talent with all her credits & longevity.
