Many of the wins at this year's Oscars were to be expected — Javier Bardem was sure to win Best Supporting Actor, Diablo Cody was more or less expected to win for her Juno screenplay, and I definitely foresaw the Best Original Score win for Atonement.
Yet there were some surprises, too. While I think Marion Cotillard's win is fully deserved, I had expected the Academy to give that one to Julie Christie, for example.
What do you think was most surprising about this year's Oscar wins?

Michael Kors
Suss
Guerlain
Tilda Swinton...the biggest and most pleasant surprise, I think. I picked her as a "Should win, but won't" during my round up of predictions, she was absolutely fantastic in Michael Clayton.
Also, I'd like to throw in The Golden Compass for visual effects. Transformers was expected to be a lock there.
1I am not sure why No Country for Old Men won so many awards...the movie wasnt very good (Though Bardem play the psychopath perfectly). It was pretty much a crazy guy going around killing people and trying to find that bag of money, but WHY, maybe I missed it but I dont think you ever found out why he wanted that money. The only I couldve pulled from that movie--and this was even a stretch--it couldve been called No Country for Old Men because Tommy Lee Jones' character was tired of his job as sherrif and just couldnt take the violence anymore...so he quit. It certainly had a very odd ending.
2Tilda Swinton, I thought Cate Blanchett were gonna win best supporting
3I loved NCFOM, despite the Sopranosish ending.
4Tilda Swinton's win surprised me most. Now I'm even more anxious to see Michael Clayton than I was before.
5I didn't like No Country for old men. It was only worth watching for the villan but other than that I cannot understand how the hell it won all these awards.
6The whole La Vie en Rose thing is odd to me. I live in a pretty big market but don't recall seeing it out here. I'm not saying Cotillard didn't deserve it, I'm just surprised at the acclaim the movie has gotten since I didn't realize it even existed until it got nominations.
7Seeing the academy forgot to include Brad Renfro in their Remeberance sequence suprised me.
8Tilda Swinton was a surprise. A good one, though. I didn't really like Michael Clayton but she was fantastic. I didn't see La Vie en Rose or so, although the Best Actress category was kind of an upset, I didn't know enough to be surprised.
I was really happy that No Country got so much recognition. The Coen brothers make such unique, amazing films.
9The Coen Brothers getting three Oscars in one night was a surprise for me. A pleasant surprise.
10Marion winning Best Actress. A pleasant surprise.
111. No Country For Old Men. I did not like the movie.
122. The Coen brothers getting three Oscars.
3. IMO, the worst Oscars i have seen in years.
4. Last. Movies that did not get nominated that
i think, was better than the one that did
get the Oscar.
Tilda Swinton. Everyone was arguing about whether it would be Ruby Dee or Cate Blanchett. I'm kind of surprised that Cate didn't win at all, to be honest. I haven't seen the films, but Oscar loves her.
13Tilda's win, definitely. While it was a great performance, I fully expected them to give it to Cate Blanchett.
Though Marion's win was a surprise. I'd read so many picks that had her as the dark horse (mostly because the movie was barely seen outside of Hollywood), that I was certain she wasn't going to get it.
14I was shocked by Tilda's win, but she totally deserved it, and her speech was hilarious.
15I was definitely pleasantly surprised about Marion's win. She definitely deserved it. I was shocked mostly because the movie was in French and not a lot of people went out of their way to see it.
16I think Paul Dano definitely deserved to be nominated for best supporting actor - he was fantastic as the preacher in "There Will Be Blood." That being said, I'm happy with Bardem's win - he was great in "No Country for Old Men" and actually made the movie.
I much preferred "There Will Be Blood" to "No Country for Old Men." It should have won Best Picture.
17I couldnt believe they left out Brad Renfro in the Memoriam clip.
18Transformers should have won for Visual Effects. Good thing it wasn't included in the contest. lol
19None of these moments were surprising to me. I predicted almost all of the big category winners.
20I really didn't expect Diablo Cody to win. I liked the movie; I just didn't see it as Oscar worthy.
21I never gave her a chance...just goes to show. her sense of humor is fantastic...hope to see her in movie and at the Oscars again.
22Tilda Swinton is my favorite actress and she certainly should have won an Oscar ages ago; I just didn't expect her to win for Michael Clayton.
23Tilda. I just thought Cate's performance was much stronger.
Everyone thought Julie Christie would win and I did too. But I thought Marion deserved to win so I'm happy.
24Marion deserved it ~!I love it when the underdog wins. In this age of empty celebrity and actresses being known more for the publicity hype than for actual real talent her win is so refreshing.
25Tilda Swinton was on my wishlist but not on my predictions! Congrats to her! And doom to me, whose predicted Oscar ballot was pretty pathetically off the mark. Tilda would have made it worth my while if she had made some risque shoutouts to her live-in boyfriends. =) Speeches like that would improve viewership, guaranteed.
26Everyone I predicted would win, won. So, no big surprises, really. With the exception of Ruby Dee. I thought she would finally be recognized with an Oscar for her talent with all her credits & longevity.
