This year's Oscars ceremony wasn't the most upset-filled or exciting in history — but there were still so many wonderful, touching little moments that made the show memorable. Several of them stood out to me when I was live blogging the ceremony: Jon Stewart bringing Markéta Irglová back onto the stage so she could address the crowd, Diablo Cody clasping hands with Ellen Page before accepting her award for Best Original Screenplay, and Marion Cotillard's giddy, lovely acceptance speech were a few of my favorites. What about you? Which moments stood out? You can watch a video of Cotillard's speech and weigh in with your greatest hits of the 2008 Oscars if you read more.

Marion Cotillard's win was really sweet to watch. I also loved Jon Stewart throughout, he was hilarious. Tilda Swinton's speech was definitely a highlight, making reference to George Clooney as Batman! The speech made by the winners of the Documentary Short Subject was really touching too.
1I agree with a lot of yours - the Markéta Irglová speech was very sweet. I liked Marion Cotillard's speech and got misty eyed along with Diablo.
I loved watching Frances McDormand in the audience getting all excited and emotional about the Coen Brothers' win.
I liked when Daniel Day-Lewis kissed Clooney and then bent down in front of Helen Mirren.
2DDL is a rockstar.
3Awwww. Marion is sooo sweet!
4Yes to all that you've mentioned. It's nice to see those that were experiencing this for the first time, & even better to see genuine reactions for their wins.
5I love that Jon Stewart brought Markéta Irglová back out on stage so she could actually get to speak. And she did a wonderful job with the time that she was given.
Ah, and playing Wii was a hilarious moment!
6My favorite moment was when Javier Bardem spoke directly to his mother in Spanish. I was THIS close to tears that he gave her that in front of the whole world. She had to be the proudest mother that her son would do that for her! Just loved it.
7The best part was when Jon Stewart brought out the girl from ONCE to give her thank you speach. I felt like that was the most uplifting and genuine speaches of the whole night.
8Marion's speech was so sweet and genuine!! Thank you life, thank you love... hear her say that made me so happy, I don't know why!
9I loved Marion's speech. I thought that was wonderful.
10I loved Markéta Irglova's speech, very nice and inspiring. Marion was the sweetest too, she was truly honored.
11I loved everything you mentioned, especially Marketa Irglova's speech - which was inspiring, sweet and everything an Oscar speech should be. It was nice having so many first time winners - as their speeches tend to be the best. Tilda was hilarious (especially with the mention of George Clooney and the Batsuit), Marion and Javier were just wonderfully sweet.
12When Diablo Cody won!
When Marion Cotillard won! I was routing for her, so yay!
"Falling Slowly" - both the performance and when they won
I think it was so great
that Markéta Irglova got to go back on to the stage...
I also loved Tilda Swinton's speech!
13I loved John Stewarts commentary about the election ... the comment about the asteroid hitting the earth, i was dying!
14Diablo Cody's was definitely my favourite. And I loved how she looked so embarrassed after her speech and snapped that envelope and started walking away
15Jon Stewart bringing Markéta Irglová back was classy. I loved the "knighting" of Daniel Day Lewis and Brad Bird's reminiscence about his high school guidance counselor asking him what he wanted to do with his life.
16I too appreciated Stewart bringing Markéta Irglová back out. I was just remarking to my husband how mean it was that they cut people off like that when it's such a huge deal to them. Cut out the stupid Bee movie plug if you need to cut back on time.
Jon Stewart was awesome. I wasn't sure if he could do it, but he definitely did well throughout.
And all the other stuff mentioned. Oh, at one point, when Stewart made a joke about names, and mentioned the name similar to Hitler's (I forget what it was exactly, but obviously playing off Hitler's name), they panned to the audience, and someone turned to the person next to her and asked "Who's that?" (Or it seemed like it to me - DVR anyone?) That was pretty funny. I'm not sure who it was, but I think it might have been Marion Cotillard. I guess she didn't get the joke.
17I loved Tilda Swinton's acceptance speech. She seemed so shocked, and amused by her win.
18I agree, the most touching and 'real' moments were Jon Stewart bringing Markéta Irglová back for her chance to speak, Diablo Cody's shock, and Marion Cotillard's true wonder at winning.
I also loved Tilda's speech, how she was amusing and surprised.
Oh, and Cate Blanchett. She was AMAZING at truly cheering for the winners. Both times. I don't know if she's someone worried she'll be crushed and overcompensates, but I like to think she seems like someone genuinely happy for the women that did win.
19I loved Marion's speech, it brought tears to my eyes. I also liked that Jon brought back Marketa Irglova onstage to give her speech because it was incredibly rude that the music cut her off. Oh and I also loved Jon's "Angelina" joke.
20The In Memoriums are touching, yet they they do it so well, it doesnt leave me sad..
I also enjoy all the historical flashback scenes..
Cheers~ Grantz
