First and foremost, Phasekitty totally called the twist at the end of this episode in one of her comments last week. Nicely done, Phasekitty. Nicely done.
As a general rule, I think I've had enough of Kate's stories, of which we've now had nine. Last week's episode was so gripping with Sayid's flash forwards, and I found myself not caring too much about Kate's stuff. Well, except for the parts that involved a shirtless Sawyer. Know what I think Sawyer's nickname for Sawyer would be? "Dimples." Anyway, otherwise, it was a fairly interesting episode.
For an awesomely thorough recap of the goings-on in this week's episode of Lost, check out SweetPeasMom's post. To check out my thoughts on the show and to share your own in the comments, read more.
- Last things first: Aaron is the son that Kate has been referring to, ever since last season's finale when she told Jack in a flash-forward that she has to go because "he'll be wondering where I am." So does this mean that the Oceanic 6 consists of Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Aaron, and one more person? Or does Aaron not count as one of the six?
- Last week Sawyer said to Kate, "Nothing awaits you back there but handcuffs," and sure enough, they cuff Kate soon after she enters the courtroom.
- Locke: "If I was a dictator I would just shoot you and go about my day." Wow, way harsh. And that whole grenade-in-the-mouth bit was hardcore, too. Locke's losing it. He also claims to now be "responsible for the well-being of this island."
- Awww, Hurley: "You just totally Scooby Dooed me, didn't ya?"
- I gotta say I'm growing tired of the Kate-Jack-Sawyer love triangle. Of course Jack is going to say on the stand that he doesn't love her. That part is lame. And the whole piece with Kate and Sawyer in bed, quibbling about babies and Jack is just boring. Only thing we needed to know there is that Kate's not actually pregnant — or, at least that's what she says.
- Man, I love Sawyer's goofy-looking reading glasses.
- Also: I think it's funny that there's Dharma Initiative boxed wine.
- Anyone else shiver a little when Sawyer said, "So just be woman enough to tell me you want to use me for somethin'"?
- Little tidbit from Lostpedia about Xanadu, the movie Hurley puts on the TV at the place he shares with Sawyer: "While it is a clear reference to the cult movie of 1980, in which the main character crosses over into another dimension to be with his muse, it also refers to a famous poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, about a famous paradise built by Kubla Khan."
- $3.2 million seems like such a random number to toss out there. But we know nothing in this show is random.
- What's going on with that helicopter Sayid took with the helicopter guy? Still haven't landed in a day.
- Now we know that Dan's memory is faulty, and his remembering two out of three cards is considered progress.
- I'm curious to find out who this nanny woman is who greets Kate with such a warm welcome. Hmm?

Kate and Sawyer are not in love anymore.
My heart is broken.
1i was confused by the card bit - it seemed to me that daniel was testing his 'psychic' or lack there of abilities. anyone else think this?
i was totally blown away by aaron! i was like 'aww, it's totally sawyer's baby, he's so blonde'. LOVE IT.
it makes sense why kate would not want to subject him to anything... i'm guessing claire is going to die and ask kate to take care of him. =(
who do you think the two people who they are saying died are? as in "8 of us survived the crash and then 2 of us died"...
2i think claire may die this season. sad, but true. she wont make it home even if she gets on a helicopter or whatever.
3Do you guys think it would be too cheesy for them to pull a trick in which Kate really is pregnant on the island and ends up naming her son Aaron to honor Claire . . . or something? That thought occurred to me as a way they might later twist this twist. But it might be too ridiculous, even for Lost!
4ummm did Kate like take Aaron by force or did Claire give him to her.
5Not my favorite episode this season, but the others have been sooo great, so I can't reall complain. At least we found out what happened w/her criminal past when she returns to the mainland, to say she got off easily is a stretch. So Claire dies & Kate somehow ends up w/Aaron, but we don't know why she keeps him, and why does Jack have such an issue with it that he won't even visit him? Is Jack somehow responsible for Claire's death maybe? Does Kate try & pass Aaron as her own actual child once back home? So many questions, I do love it though...can't wait to find out what happened to the helicopter....can't imagine!
And why are they lying to everyone (even under oath) saying they were only 8 survivors of the crash? Who's idea was that & why is everyone going along w/it?
6Very tricky!! I think Claire must die, why else would Kate have Aaron? But I think she dies either getting off the island or maybe on the freighter, b/c Desmond told Charlie he saw Claire & Aaron getting into a helicopter right? And Claire wouldn't just hand Aaron off to Kate either, b/c the psychic told her that she was the only one that could raise Aaron.
I too think Jack must be somehow responsible for Clarie's death, why would he not want to see Aaron? At first I thought he didn't want to see the baby b/c it was Sawyer's, but that was squashed once Kate called the baby Aaron.
7Okay, so the thing with Aaron (I totally called it and my BF didn't believe me). Everyone wants to know why Jack wouldn't have wanted to see him. Here goes a few choices
- Obviously someone is calling the shots with this whole 8 survived story. Possibly that person said that they could choose and Claire wanted Aaron to have a chance and thus put him in Kate's care. This whole 'story' business certainly is starting to take it's toll on Jack, and he likely is trying to forget that he's a puppet. Seeing Aaron could be a reminder of that.
- The real Aaron is still on the island with Claire. This Aaron is named after that Aaron and is indeed Sawyer's child. Just because Kate SAID she wasn't pregnant doesn't mean she isn't. Jack obviously would have some issues with seeing Aaron in that case.
- Aaron is Kate's son, not by Sawyer, and not by adoption from Claire but rather the result of some Dharma/Others/Island insemination. Biological father is Jack and he's all freaked out by it. He has always loved Kate, but never got to express it and a child of them both would just hurt him to no end to see as it would force him to face his true feelings and or the truth regarding Kate and the Island.
Yes, some are a stretch. It is LOST though and really at this point anything could happen.
8for some reason i had heard kate call the baby eric, not aaron. i hit rewind and listened to it twice and i swear she said eric not aaron. i want to know who the rest of the '8' are...on another board someone mentioned that they thought locke was the one in the coffin in the first episode. i'm tired of kate/jack/sawyer triangle too. i want to know about jin and sun. i also agree that i think that michael is ben's contact on the boat. though not sure how they are communicating.
9also, i was thinking the same thing Buzz that kate lied to sawyer and IS pregnant. Just in the way that she said it made me question whether she was telling the truth or not. and what is with the specific number of $3.2M? Arghh just more questions!!! i'm addicted to this show but get frustrated at the questions!
10I clicked Buzz to see the recap and was like, "Why is my name up there?!?" Thanks for the shout out Buzz, but I do have to throw some credit to my boyfriend who came up with the theory and I just believed it posted it on here (I totally gave him credit, don't worry!) to see what others thought. So kudos to the bf
Okay, so now that my bf's crazy theory was right, here's where we differ on thoughts. He thinks (and obviously lots of you do too) that Claire dies and that's why Kate gets Aaron. I think that there will be some sort of situation where there's only room for so many people on a helicopter, or whatever mode of transportation that's leaving the island, and Claire will be left behind and ask Kate to take Aaron at the last minute so that he will be guaranteed to get off. I think Claire is still on that island and something happens where the Oceanic 6 realizes that they can't go back for whatever reason and is forced to come up with this story that they're the only survivors, and Kate claims Aaron as her own child. Jack, I think, feels guilty about the lie that they're telling and the fact that he left his sister (lest we forget him and Claire are related!) on the island and that they're lying to his nephew, because obviously Aaron is unaware that Kate is not his mommy, and that's why he can't see him. Phew! Okay, what does everyone think?
11OH and the psychic told Clair that no 'other' should raise this child...was she referring to the 'Others'?
12OOh Michael as Ben's contact on the boat, didn't think of that one. If that is the case, it would be pretty mind-blowing (and of course lead to many many more questions).
13one more comment, does anyone else find Kate less attractive off the island? I mean, she is still beautiful of course, but with the make up & jewelry, she looks older or something...just not as great as she normally does.
14Phasekitty, I also think Jack's reluctance to see Claire has to do with the fact that Aaron's his nephew (and bitterness/something else?) over his father, AND I think there's more Jack's dad stuff we have yet to see.
Also, I think Aaron's father is not the guy we met in the first season. The first Claire backstory was one of my favorite episodes, and I think/hope there's way more to be explored there. Anyone (Leilanic1?) remember what exactly the psychic said about her child being raised by another?
15I think Jack is guilty about Aaron because obviously something he did lead to the situation whether Claire was forced to choose between herself and Aaron or something Jack did(call the rescueres) caused her death. Let's not forget, Jack is Aaron's half uncle!
I too am SO over Kate, can she get any more annoying, self righteous or defiant? I want Jack and Juliet to knock some jungle boots stat!
Did anyone else notice in the previews for next week that Desmond is chocking Dan asking him whether or not he dies and that Desmond has short hair? Did I imagine that?
16Phasekitty, your boyfriend called it..good job!
My hubby called it too! I can't
believe I didn't even think of it.
Buzzsugar, I was thinking that too (about her naming the baby Aaron) but I think that would be beneath the writers to write something like that, no? LOL!! I hope that doesn't happen. But I did so want her to be pregnant with Sawyers baby
mannylove, I know what you mean, she looks so good all sweaty and with her hair down and curly and with no makeup. Sheesh, wish I was that lucky. Granted, she still looks good with makeup but I agree.
We have been catching up watching all the Lost seasons on DVD during the strike while we are on the treadmill. We finally caught up last night..so we watched it in HD and my hubby said that Kate looks too skinny on HD, he likes her better on our upstairs tv with the dvd player..LOL!
17Ah, i loved this episode! how did you guys think kate ended up with aaron. i mean after all claire was more than just far along and kate was with the marshall so they know she was not eight/nine months pregnant by the time of the crash!? and even if he was not in this weeks episode i´m still not losing the feeling, that sayid is not one of the "oceanic 6"!
18did anybody else thougt, that the other losties are not really dead but part of a deal that makes them stay on the island (maybe thats too weired)?
Buzzsugar, I can't really remember everything the psychic said to Claire, but he did say that she had to raise the baby, nobody else. Hmmmmm. And now Kate is raising him? Also, wasn't the psychic the same guy that Ecko (sp?) met with and his daughter was raised from the dead? Didn't he say he was a liar and not really a psychic? I am assuming that was before he met with Claire? Because then, was he just lying to her? I don't know, this show has my head spinning..hee.
And if I was Sawyer I would have slapped Kate right back! He totally called her on her BS. I'm sick of her using him. I know he's a con man and all but I truly think he loves her and she just can't make up her mind. Sheesh.
19okay i just did a search on google for claire and this is what i found (i'm a geek and an addict, i know)
the name of the episode is:
Raised by Another (these are all flashbacks that Claire has after the plane has already crashed)
Claire and a friend go to a psychic. Claire feels nervous, but the friend tells her it will be fun.
The psychic takes Claire's hands and after a pause asks Claire when she found out about the baby. A stunned Claire looks at her friend, who shrugs. "Two days ago," Claire answers.
After another pause the psychic gets scared and drops Claire's hands. He says he can't do her reading. "What a freak," the friend says as they walk out, but Claire is terrified.
Claire knocks on a door and the same psychic answers. She gives him more money and begs him to do her reading. He finally agrees. "It is crucial," he says, "that you raise this child yourself."
She says that Thomas left her and the psychic says that it doesn't matter. "Danger surrounds this child. Your nature, your spirit, your goodness must be an influence." He gets very agitated when Claire says she's giving the baby up for adoption.
He gives Claire her money back and insists that she keep the baby. A few days later he calls and wakes Claire. She asks that he stop calling, and tells him that she is going to the adoption agency the next day. He has a plan for her, but she hangs up on him.
The psychic gives Claire a pile of money and says she must go to Los Angeles. He says there is a family there who is eager to adopt and he's sure the baby will be safe there. He says he gave her $6000 and that she will get an equal amount when she lands in Los Angeles.
The psychic gives her an Oceanic ticket. "I can't go tomorrow," she says.
20"It has to be this flight," he says. "Flight 815."
It's weird because Desmond had the vision of Claire and the baby getting on the helicopter. Either that does happen and then something goes wrong and Claire doesn't get rescued or she dies or Desmond lied about that to get Charlie to do what he needed to do?
Sorry, if this was already discussed and I missed it.
21Sumbum, I totally just wrote everything you did above...sorry! Just read through everything better. LOL!
22Good point, spimic! MY guess is that there is something weeeird with the time on the island (remember Daniel's experiment last week that showed the island time was 30 minutes off?). The thing is, it has to be more than 30 minutes. Remember Jack in the season finale? He had a new cell phone (I think it was the new Razr) that didn't come out til 2007 or so, putting that timeframe 3 years after the crash.
In short, I'm saying that though less than a year has gone by on the island, 3 years have gone by due to some crazy space/time continuum thing, by the time the Oceanic 6 come back to the mainland. Make sense to anyone else? My brain hurts.
23I agree with Leilanic1, I totally heard the name Eric, I rewound three times and it was really too close to call. I even went to the Lost boards and lot of people noticed that too.
24Maybe Claire dies due to some issue with the island and pregnancies? Before she got to the island no pregnant women lived, maybe she couldnt leave or she would die?
25I really don't think Claire would just give her baby up to someone who so obviously doesn't even want to HOLD a baby. Also, of ANYONE on the island, Claire, Aaron and Sun should be the first 3 off. Babies and pregnant ladies first. But maybe something happens to Claire. Maybe whatever the island does to pregnant women finally catches up to her when she tries to leave? Then the baby could go into the care of Kate. But why would Kate take the baby? And I'm wondering who the world (Lost world not real world) thinks is the father of her baby? One of the survivors? Or do they think she was pregnant before she got on the plane? If this whole time thing is true(one year vs 3 years) then that might we kind of weird depending on the age of Aaron.
26Also, I'm sick of Kate. She's not deserving of either of those guys as far as I'm concerned. She's treated them Both like CRAP.
I'd like to see more on Hurley, Locke and Desmond. Locke's going crazy.
And I may be alone here, but I really miss the mystic side of the island. Like when was the last time we saw the smoke monster? Or anything like that??? All we focus on is the people, not the island itself.
OH and where are all the others hiding?? The ones like, the stewardess and the kids and stuff????
I'm thinking next week we'll get even more info on the time jumps because it looks like Desmond and Sayid's helicopter goes off that strict course they were supposed to follow.
27Ahhh so mnay great theories!
I didn't see the Aaron being under the care of Kate. I think it is Claire's Aaron, only because the timing wouldn't work out for Kate to have been pregnant and have the baby on the island. Plus I don't think they will be on the island much longer.
Plus I just want Jack and Kate to be together! I think Jack knows that Aaron is his sister's baby and they did something bad to leave her on the island, thus Jack feels guilty about ehr still being there and he needs to go back.
Tons more theories .... too many to type, love this show!
28quick question:
29Did Jack and Claire ever figure out they're related????
Or are we just assuming once they become famous some reporter will dig it up and tell them?
Renee3, they never showed Claire and Jack finding out they had the same father. I can't wait for that moment!
30Renees3- way back in July I went to Comic-con and attended the Lost panel. It was a 2 hour Q&A that didn't answer much, but they did say that Jack and Claire would find out they were related this season. You can read the post, which has lots of little tid bits about this season, here:
http://teamsugar.com/user/Phasekitty/blog/452781
31Buzz,
That might have been possible if Aaron wasn't so big at the end of the episode. He was evidently toddler-sized (2-3) so I definitely think that's Claire's Aaron.
32I LOVE LOST!
33I'm happy because I actually guessed her "son" was Aaron (though I can't pat myself on the back since I guess it was pretty obvious to most..haha). But I do think that Jack is having a hard time seeing Aaron because he is feeling guilty/upset about Claire (either she is dead or was left on the island)..was it just me or did Kate seem VERY attached to Aaron? A huge contrast to when she was on the island....maybe because he just represents their whole time on the island/loss of friends/etc?? Ack! either way, I LOVE THIS SHOW!!
34I'm surprised no one mentioned the age difference between baby Aaron and off the island Aaaron. He's quite a bit older yes? I'm not an expert on how quickly kids grow but, he's certainly not a baby anymore. Random note - will we ever hear what happened with Walt and his dad???
35^ I mentioned it
36Locke is losing it.......
I think I despise Miles as much as I despise Sam (Lutfi)..
Some people have been saying that Miles & Ben are in cahoots....and that the chat about the 3.2 mil was code talk to Ben.....I think I disagree...because...when Miles finally got to talk to Ben...he asked Ben...do you know me? I do however think Miles knows a lot about Ben..
Best line of the night : You just totally Scoobey-dooed me right.
37Hurley is the best!
keep in mind we dont know how long a time lapse between the time kate got off the island and what we saw last night. It was mentioned in Kates bail hearing that "she has been free this who time, and obvouisly not a flight risk"...so its possible she has been off the island for alot longer at that point than we think. Plus, she already established a home, bought a car, etc. Its not like as soon as she was rescued she was swept away to court.
38That's a great point, sarah100682. Also, think about how long it takes cases like that to go to a full trial. It's very feasible that it's been anywhere from 6 months to two years since they left the island.
39Thank you! I was just about to say the same about the time frame. Why is everyone under the assumption that NO time has passed in these flash forwards? We don't really know how much or little time has passed. We can speculate that the season finale happens even further into the future than the current flashes, but that's based on Jack going crazy and growing the beard (mentions growing one to Hurley when he visits him). We can see in the current flashes that Jack is working on the crazy, but we still don't REALLY know for sure when this all is. Besides the fact that some folks are also assuming that they are all being saved this season and getting right home. Even a POW doesn't get home and settled all that quickly. These folks first off have to get to the freighter, then from the freighter get to dry land. Likely there they will go through some sort of paperwork processing (the old gotta bring 'em back from the dead issue as in Cast Away), as well as mental and physical evaluations. From there they would probably get to go home, wherever that may be. We gather they (O6) get some major cheese ($) as a settlement and that too takes time to get. So yes, seeing as how Kate already has a pretty nice house, is furnished and lived in and has a nice new VOLVO we have to wager that more than a few months time has passed between Island Life and Flash Forwards.
40Did anyone else notice that Kates mom said to her trial that shes felt differently about her after she knew she was dead "for 4 years" which would put them in 2008.
41nice catch Ikandy! I totally blew over that part because Sabrina's Aunt bugs me as Kate's mom and I didn't pay too much attention to that scene.
42Ikandy, are you sure about that I watched it again and she said, "It all changed when I thought you were dead. My doctors have given me 6 months to live for the last 4 years".
43kiddylind! "Sabrina's Aunt"! hahaha. I love it, because that's all I see too. I was also calling Kate's lawyer "the brother on Big Love" all night.
44I read on lostpedia that in the credits Aaron is refered as TWO YEAR OLD BOY
451.if kates mum said that she thought kate was dead for 4 years... nd the crash happened in september 2004 (im not sure wat yr but sumwhere round there)that would be it was flash foward into 2008.. meaning they not get off the island for a few more years...
2. i dont think claire died so kate took Aaron coz jack said he didnt want to look at the baby... jack nd claire are half brothers nd sisters... so that would be hes related to Aaron.
3. I AM SOO SICK OF PEOPLE SAYING JACK ND KATE TOGETHER IS BORING!! COZ ITS NOT!! I LOVE EM TOGETHER... <3
4. no offence but i dont find sawyer attractive in anyway.
cant wait for da next ep!!!! luv LOST
46NO hotstuff, Im not sure...I thought thats what she said...OOPS!
47The 3.2 backwards is 23, one of the mysterious group of numbers from the beginning of the season. I loved this episode with Kate. I think that something happens to Claire and Kate brings him back home. Jack probably finds out somehow that Claire was his sister and that's why he doesn't want to see Aaron. I loved it when Kate wasn't all wonderful with her mom. Her mom sold her out bigtime. She doesn't deserve to see her grandchild.
48Season 1 is awesome but somehow i tried to stay through werid Season 2 then Season 3 sucks as hell so now i get zero interest in Season 4.totally gave up this show
49That's too bad XpsX,
This show is destined for greatness...there's nothing like on television, and probably won't be for a LONG time coming...you may want to give it another try!!!
