Check out this very early peek at the 3-D computer-animated Smurfs movie, which recently surfaced over on ComingSoon. Even more than the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, I'm not sure how to feel about a modern remake of the old animated series.

What do you think about a new Smurfs movie? Are you curious to see it? Or is it just plain sacrilege?

I remember the smurfs fondly. I loved those smurf figurines and it was the thing in elementary school to have as many as possible.
I have even been on the Smurf Mountain ride--in my twenties!
However, I watched the Smurfs very recently (on Cartoon Netowrk or Boom or some such) and was upset to discover the show to be pretty much unwatchable. So boring.
You can't go home again.
1Would the modern day child even know what smurfs is about?
2Oh, DAMN not the Smurfs too! Can't these people come up with any original ideas???!!!
3maybe, I'll watch it but Im not stoked about it.

LOL, ITA I tried watching one day and it lasted like 5 minutes, every other word they said had a smurf prefix and was smurfarific...I was like how the hell did I ever know what they were talking about!
5Probably not...I DID grow up on the Smurfs though. But I can't see myself being interested in this.
6NO! I don't understand why Hollywood can't leave well enough alone.
7The Chipmunks movie was a horrible idea and so is this. Leave my childhood shows alone!
8If they do make a movie, I do hope they come up with more female smurfs. Poor Smurfette! She was the only one the smurfs could "smurf" around with, or Vanity (the gay smurf).
9Please no.....I love the Smurfs as they are.

That reminds me...I distinctly remember the one where it was Valentines Day and even Papa Smurf tried to hit on Smurfette! I was like NOOOOOOOOO!!!
11i use to love to watch Smurfs when i was little, but i don't think i want to see this today.
12ugh, this drives me crazy. i hope they don't ruin it, but they probably will....
Oh, and mamaseacat, I remember reading that they will be creating more female smurfs for the movie.

I also read that it's supposed to be a trilogy... like a goofy Lord of the Rings.
13No please. I love my old school smurfs.
14NO!!
15Ooh, and you know Vanity was gettin' all kinds of smurf-play, right?
16Please stop messing with my childhood, There has never been a remake or a revamp that can live up to the original. Hollywood needs to stop dipping into the past to make money on nostalgia.
Funny fact about the smurfs, they were actually the work of a belguim cartoonist, originally known as "Les Schtroumpfs" they debuted in 1958!
I used to get a kick out of them getting drunk on smurfberries, that they never take thier hats off (thier bald, except for papa and grandpa smurf, and smurfette)
Does anyone remember Puppy? the smurflings? clockwork smurf? the wartmongers? Bigmouth? Feathers?
17i don't know if i would watch it or not - but i certainly did love them when i was younger!
18Leave my old cartoons the way they are....sheesh! I mean first the care bears, Scooby Doo, Garfield, Alvin and the Chipmunks... ENOUGH goodness LOL
19no I prefer them old school
20No. I didn't like how they messed with Alvin and the Chipmunks very much, and although I really don't have any sentimental ties with the Smurfs, I'd rather that they leave them as they are. The kids that they are targeting today don't know what the old Smurfs looked like, so why not keep them as they are? The majority of people who would be going to see the movie anyway would be adults who grew up watching it and brought their children to the movie. The kids have no expectations, so why try to please them? Why not please their parents who will be very upset to see their beloved cartoon messed with?
21Can't anyone come up with something new? Why do they have to keep on trying to bring back old cartoons into feature length movies?? What's next? Really?
22Sure, it might be cute.
23the only way hollywood could ruin my childhood memories further is if they slayed a live popple on my doorstep.
24Do we REALLY need another less-than-mediocre, old kid's tv show made into a movie (again)?
Now that the writer's strike is over, I hope that they will finally start churning out some good movies; I had heard somewhere that they had been taking old scripts (maybe the idea for a Smurf movie, ugh) and putting them into production to make up for lost time during the strike.
25I didn't really like or watch the original, so I don't want to see it again, altered.
