On Friday there leaked a brief clip from the Spike Jonze live-action film adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, and folks have been buzzing about how adorable — yet strange — the movie looks. There's a lovely innocence to it, as well as a distinctly melancholic tone, all in keeping with the book on which the movie is based. I love that the puppet is a real thing, and not some CGI creature.
Now there's been some speculation that this clip is a fake, though if it is, that's some darn good user-generated content. To check out the very cute, odd clip and tell me what you think, read more.

Wow. That was really stupid.
You know, not every book/story/fairy tale can be a movie. I wish the studios would realize this before they completely ruin every single classic.
1I think that the footage may be real, but it's been overdubbed.
2Hmmmm. I don't know what to think. Something about it does come off a little fake to me. But I could see it being real too. Interesting.
3Not sure about its authenticity. It just feels and sounds a bit fake. All in all, I'm not a huge fan of the real project.
4that was oddly cute. i wonder what character paul dano is playing in this film?
i think the film has a great line-up of actors in it so i'm excited to see this.
5Weird voice.
6I"m really excited to see how this turns out.
7The voice is Sean Penn
8The answer from someone who has seen a version of the movie:

And I have to take offense to the first talkbacker that decries the existence of this movie. It's a Spike Jonze/Dave Eggers collaboration with 100% approval by Maurice Sendak, so it's not any run-of-the-mill adaptation. It's not at all a studio thing. It's being put together by three geniuses.
