Is this the end for our beloved Dillon Panthers? As much as it hurts my heart to say it, tonight's episode of Friday Night Lights could be the last one we've ever seen. It's the final episode the show finished before the strike got in the way, and even if the strike ends soon, there's no telling whether NBC will put the show back into production.
Frankly, signs haven't been good. First, Ben Silverman utterly blew off questions about the show in an interview with Radar. Then, someone leaked the news that the second season is set to be released on DVD in April with only 15 episodes, not the 22 that were originally ordered. There's also the unavoidable fact that ratings still aren't good (though with an average of 6.1 million viewers per week, the show is roughly on par with last year, even with its awful Friday time slot). And some of the critics who so vocally lobbied for the show's renewal last year have slowly backed away, citing the Landry/Tyra murder plot and other weaknesses of this season.
On the other hand, Entertainment Weekly reported some slightly more encouraging news: Universal might try to find the show a home on another network if NBC doesn't want it, and the show could potentially complete as many as six more episodes after the strike, at least giving this season a proper end. Plus, at least one Save Our Show campaign is already underway courtesy of Best Week Ever, so check out the petition if you want the show back.
For now, here's all we know for sure: In tonight's episode, Tami's old boyfriend will show up (and be played by series creator Peter Berg, hilariously); Riggins will step up his efforts to woo Lyla; and someone will show up pregnant. I plan to savor every moment, just in case it's the last I ever see of Dillon. What about you? To watch a preview for the episode, just read more.

NOOOOOO!! Please don't let this be the last episode! This is the best show on TV!!
1I can't even imagine this being the last show! This is the best show on TV! If NBC won't keep it hopefully another network will pick it up.
2noooooo please no! i love fnl & matt saracen way too much for this to happen!
3what would riggins do?
4PLEASE Don't cancel this show! I love it. Hopefully another network will pick it up if they do. They really should change what night it is on. It make sense that Friday Night Lights is on Friday, but a lot of people are not home to watch it. I know i DVR it and watch it first thing saturday morning.
5Sad that ratings trump quality, especially since the network has moved the show into a losing time slot. If NBC cancels the show, we can only hope that another network will pick it up. I suspect that Silverman will be unmoved by the light bulb campaign, but it's worth a try. FNL is the highlight of my viewing week; a huge void will be created in my life if I don't have Matt and Riggins, Tami and Eric, Smash and Landry to watch. At least we have tonight's episode to enjoy. Go Panthers.
6I have never really watched this show but I do plan tonight just to save it for the fans.
Also since when does 30 Rock bring in blockbuster ratings? Like Grey's etc. Oh it doesn't but you just promote the heck out of it.
7If I have to stop watching Riggins every week, I will cry.
8I agree with the not promoting. The only time i ever see commercials for FNL Is during ER and that has not been on in weeks.
I guarantee that if they did some advertising with Riggins and probably Matt in it they would get a lot more people watching. And i guess they should do some with Tyra and Lyla for the guys
9My husband has been recording it, so I see it. Can't say I'll miss it, but I don't like it when shows just disappear. Sorry, too contrived for me. They ruined one character for me a long time ago (name slips me--the one with his grandma).
10This is the best show on television. It is my FAVORITE show. Why do shows like this always have this drama with being cancelled yet shows that I hate (reality t.v.) just keeps on ticking. I just don't get why the American public is so adverse to watching good t.v.
11I won't believe it. WHY would NBC want to get rid of their best show? Especially since you can count the number of quality shows the network has on one hand.
12Every little gesture may just help to save Friday Night Lights. It worked last year for "Jericho." Lets try our best to save the best show on TV! There are a few things you can do:
1) Buy the first season DVD. Only $18 on amazon! Or, download individual episodes for $1.99.
2) Watch FNL on the NBC website. They have season 1 for PC owners and Mac users can watch a few episodes from season two. Each person that goes to the website and watches is counted and makes the studio money!
3) Go to Best Week Ever's Save FNL site and sign the petition!

4) Send light bulbs with "Lights on!" written on them or a bottle of Clear Eyes to NBC. Explain why the show should be saved.

5) Write letters or send a video to NBC. Lets bombard them so they get the point. The best show on TV deserves more time! Tell them what you love about the show, how you watch it (DVR or TIVO), and what you think overall.
