I was happy to see the recent news about Kate Hudson joining a dramatic film about the artist Margaret Keane because I look forward to seeing Kate flex her dramatic muscles once more. Then again, she's pretty darn charming in the fluffy comedies she's done.
How do you prefer your Kate Hudson: in comedies or dramas?

I've seen a handful of KH movies and the only one I thought she was any good in was Almost Famous.
Has anyone seen Skeleton Key? That wasn't a comedy and it was pretty good. But not as good as Raising Helen or How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
I picked Drama, but I think she would be fantastic in comedies, if only she didn't pick such crappy ones!
BOTH!
I guess I have to agree with Nitachequita. I think Kate is very charming and from Almost Famous, it's obvious that she can act, but she keeps choosing such fluffy movies. I'd like to see her in a really GOOD comedy someday.
She's very charming and funny so comedies fit her, but she should choose better projects, most of her movies are very bad! I picked Drama, she was fantastic in Almost Famous. With her it happens a little like with Jennifer Aniston: she's a good dramatic actress and a good comedian but she does a lot of crappy movies. I prefer Jennifer though.
I like her better doing comedy.
she is better at comedy
I thought she was horrible in Skeleton Key and Alex and Emma. She peaked in Almost Famous and can play ditsy giggly girls, but I don't think she can act at all in drama.
Almost Famous proves she can do drama. Maybe she just needs Cameron Crowe to direct her again. I thought Skeleton Key was good too. As far as comedy, she's okay. But I prefer if she did more drama, as long as it's a good movie.
Whatever, as long as the script is good. Penny Lane is the best role she's done, though.
I think she has the chops for both. Almost Famous was a career high for her, but I think she was hilarious in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days".
I would like to see her dramatic chops tested more; I thought she was quite good in Almost Famous. I'd also like to see her stop choosing such crappy comedies though.
Penny Lane was the best she ever was. It all went downhill from there
I loved her in Almost Famous, Le Divorce, and the Skeleton Key, so i chose drama. I agree with the others here, though, that she could be good in comedies if she chose better comedies.
I think she is charming no matter what she does.
comedy, just BETTER comedies
I haven't seen everything she's done, but I seem to enjoy Kate in all her roles. I agree she was an Awesome Penny Lane, and the director plays a huge role in the performances he or she get from their cast.
I did think she was the best in Almost Famous, but I love her in romantic comedies generally speaking. She's just so adorable!
I picked Drama but both would be best, why should she limit herself?
comedy, shes funny!
Both, I think.
I picked neither, I'm so over her. These days I think she's awful in everything. She started out strong, but Almost Famous was the peak and the end of anything good she's done. Hollywood should give any Kate Hudson roles to Becki Newton and Kate can go live with her mommy.
I think she adds a luminous charm to anything she's in. A chick flick is instantly smarter with her on board, but she can play quite haunting roles in dramas (Almost Famous, Raising Helen). She has the leading lady chops of Katherine Heigl, minus the ego. The best thing about Kate Hudson is that she's so obviously comfortable with who she is, and her talent comes across as so effortless.
I really liked her in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and You, Me and Dupree.
I don't know about her doing dramatic movies though. But I'll definitely watch it to see if she's any good.
i really like her in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and "You Me and Dupree" so i voted for Comedy , but i also think that she can be good in a Dramtaic roll, she's a good actress!
I think she's great in both, so I wish that was an option. But I picked comedies. Her comedies are great.
Drama to differentiate from mama Hawn. Don't get me wrong, she's great in the right comedic vehicle, but they are few in far between (in general not just with her movies).
Despite Kate's cute-as-a-button appeal, she will never fill her mom's funny shoes. Irony is that Goldie desperately wanted to be a serious actress, but the public wanted to see her as a comedic one. Since Kate doesn't have that legacy, she has more opportunity to excel in dramatic films.
