You know what's not romantic to me? When a guy puts me out of business rendering me unemployed (You've Got Mail). Or when a guy interrupts my cab ride on the way to a promising job interview and insists I stay with him How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days). (Why can't he go with her?). Or when a guy steals my idea for an ad campaign and gets me fired with his secret mind-reading abilities (What Women Want). Time for a leading man who's not all "take, take, take".

I agree, cmd0610, I would much rather watch a played out romantic comedy than a stupid Will Ferrel movie any day. It's one thing to get escapist and disappear into a world where people have amazing romantic love lives and huge declarations of love but totally another to watch a 40+ man behave like he's 10 for an hour and a half.

Ditto pinkymystic- rom-coms always end well, the are fun, uplifting, and a bit lame but not a run-around-make-thinking-ppl-will-laugh Will Ferrel stupid-comedy sort of way.

I still love romantic comedies. They're so light and fluffy.. Simple plots and not too much to think about.. :) Very therapeutic!

Good list, Buzz. I agree that each one of the things you listed is gimmicky and trite. What about the movies in which the woman realizes that her male best friend is the one she's loved all along? That one's been used a bunch of times too.
